As I reach the final blocks, or what I refer to as the homestretch, of my run I see Jeremy’s gleaming car pull into my driveway. I smile as I slow down and turn down the volume of my iPod. “Hey, Tay.” Jeremy says as he climbs out of the car.

“Hey.” I give him a quick kiss on the lips before I stretch my quads.

“Your lips are salty.” He licks his lips.

“I just ran three and a half miles, of course they’re salty.” I push some damp strands of hair behind an ear. The warmth and rain of April was welcomed. I missed the rainstorms that I had Philly but the one we had earlier this week made up for it.

“Are you sure you’ll be ready on time?” Jeremy looks at me, eyebrows raised, as we enter my house.

“I haven’t ever been late to work. I think I can get ready for this is an hour.” I pull my shoes off and ditch them by an air vent in the entryway so they can air out. “Wait here.” I tell Jeremy. I dash up the stairs and into my room. I stop in my closet for a moment to grab an old pair of running shorts and a tank top to throw on after my shower.

I turn on the water to a colder setting before I hop in. I give myself and my hair a good scrubbing. I shut the water off and pull on the clothes and head back to my closet to select something for the concert. I flip through my clothes and notice something move in my room. “Jeremy?”

He looks up from his perch on my bed, “Hey, babe.”

“What are you doing? I told you to wait downstairs.” I look away for a moment and select a pair of dark jeans and my Imagine Dragons T.

“You know I don’t like to wait by myself.” He tilts his head almost cockily.

I sigh and shut the closet door to change. As I walk back into the bathroom he calls after me, “Wouldn’t it be easier if you had a door that connected them?” I laugh as I blow dry my air until it’s still a little damp and stick it in a bun.

I slip my feet into black Converses and grab the gray beanie Jeremy gave me a few months ago. “Ready.” I grab my phone off my desk and slip it into my back pocket.

“Doesn’t look that way. Your hair’s still wet.” He points at the bun.

“Jeremy, its fine. Let’s go.” I give him a light shove towards my door. I follow him outside. Before he has the chance to open the passenger door open for me, I stop him, “Can I drive?”

Jeremy looks at the car. He pulls his keys out of his pocket, “Well, I guess.” He hesitantly hands me the keys.

I take them and clutch them tightly in my hand. I had yet to drive Jeremy’s car and I had had my permit for two months. “Kudos.” I round the front of the car and open the driver’s door, “Oh, boy.” I slide into the seat.

“Pretty good fit, eh?” Jeremy nods at me as I finger the wood steering wheel.

“Yeah, I suppose.” I put the key in the ignition and turn. When the engine roars to life, I glance down at the speedometer. The top speed on it was above 120 MPH. I gingerly place my hand on the gear shift between us. I check the mirrors to take up some time. I was really nervous to drive his car.

“You sure you want to drive?” Jeremy looks at me with concern.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” I move the gear into reverse and press on the gas lightly. The car starts rolling down my driveway. I watch the touchscreen that shows the back-up camera. A car passes and I jam my foot on the brake.
