Still huddled behind a clothes rack, half naked, I extended my hand to Macy.
"Hello" I smiled awkwardly. What a way to meet someone. Naked on the floor. Classy.
Beth had folded her arms. Her black leather crackling with the movement.
"We should get back to what we were doing" I say standing up. This is a zombie apocalypse after all. No time for greetings.
As I begin to change into the clothes I have found on the rack, black thermal tights, white v neck and a Kathmandu jacket.
The others quickly followed.
Beth and Macy watched quietly. I noticed they had no bags or weapons with them.
Beth was wearing jeans and leather. Hair down and make up dark. Where Macy was wearing a simple pale blue summer dress and her short blonde hair fell to her shoulders naturally. Her face clear of any product, she clearly didn't need it she was a natural beauty.
"It was nice meeting you" I said, on behalf of our small but strong group.
Macy grabbed Beth's hand and whispered something in her ear. Beth nodded then spoke "it was nice meeting you to"
"All of you" she quickly added.
Max and Jordan picked up the bags of clothes and kept there weapons close by.
While we made our way through the empty shop and out the car Karli piped up.
"Carmen, we can't leave them."
"Why not?"
"Because... They had no weapons. Or food. Plus they were so nice!"
"I know. But we don't have the room." I glanced at the car it was dangerously full. Packed with first aid kits, food, water and clothes. Soon 5 people as well.
It fell quiet once again.
"Woah woah woah!" Max yelled running around the store.
"What?" I yelled after him as he disappeared.
He stumbled back towards us and waved his hand towards himself, inviting us to follow.
We all darted toward him.
"Look"
He pointed to a big yellow thing.
A bus.
Jackpot.
"This is amazing!"
The bus was completely isolated, no one around. Even if there was the chances the of them being alive we're very slim.
"I got this" Paxton said confidently as she pushed her way through the bus doors and up too the dashboard.
She knelt down and began to fiddle with something under the steering wheel.
Within seconds the bus started up with a rumble.
"Go Pax!" Max whistled.
Paxton fake strutted out the stairs and pretended to flick her hair.
"Since when were you bad ass enough to Hot-wire a fucking car?"
"Since dad got out of prison"
Karli's jaw dropped.
"I'm fucking kidding. Jeez lighten up. I watched a YouTube video on it"
We laughed. Pax relied on YouTube for everything.
"So we can add the girls to our army?" Jordan asked hopefully. He pursed his lips waiting for an answer.
"I guess so!"
"Great! I'll go get them!" Jordan said as he ran back into the store.
We started to re pack the cars stuff into the bus.
Suddenly a piercing scream echoed the car park. Three more followed.
Max and I dropped the bags and grabbed our weapons.
"Stay here!" I warned Pax and Karli. They nodded and sprinted into the bus.
Max and I rushed into the store. It turned quiet.
The only noise I could hear was my heavy breathing and pounding chest.
We crept toward where we last saw them.
"Beth? Macy? Jordan?" I whispered.a whimper came from a clothes rack. I slowly headed toward it. Max behind me. I pulled it open to find a crying Macy.
She jumped, then grabbed my arm. I handed her to Max. Even though she is about 17, her personality is so young, and helpless.
He took her hand and comforted her.
"Where is Beth and Jordan?"
"I-I- I don't know."
"Jordan c-c-came and found us, h-h-he was telling u-us about joining you. Then he just snapped, he turned on us and jumped Beth. She told me to run" she said between hitched breaths.
He's turned.
How?
It became clear.
The edginess, hiding his arm, the bloodshot eyes and pale face... He was bitten at the pharmacy...
"Where. Is. Beth? I need you to think real hard Macy."
She closed her eyes. Then pointed to a back door.
I ran in the direction and burst thought the door. Jordan was struggling to get at Beth. His jaws chomping at her face as she pushed him away with pipe.
She was covered in scratches and bruises.
"Beth!" I screamed.
Jordan's red eyes turned to me. He quickly began scuttling toward me, head crooked to me and moans escaped his blue lifeless lips.
I kicked his abdomen, and whacked him over the head with my bat.
I couldn't kill him. I've known him too long. I just had to trap him.
"Beth! Run!" She got to her feet and pushed past me out the door, I heard her meet up with Macy and Max then fast footsteps filled the shop.
Jordan was chomping at me, dark blood seeped from his mouth. His teeth decaying and breath smelt of festering flesh.
"I'm sorry" I whispered as I kicked him as hard as I could in his knee cap. A crack filled my ears as he screeched and fell to the floor in pain.
This was my chance to escape. I ran out the door and up to the bus.
"GO! GO! GO!"
Paxton pulled out of the driveway and onto the street.
I collapsed on a seat.
"Where's Jordan?"
Karli asked.
"Dead."
