**** Carmen's POV ****

I had experienced a lot of different emotions and feelings over the past couple hours, for example

Annoyance for Peter

Anger for Max

Excitement with Peter

More anger for Max

Contentment with Peter

More.Rage.For.Max

I'm now officially over "kissing shock" from peter and now fully involved with my anger for Max, I mean we have been friends for what, like twelve years? And not once did he mention he "liked" me in any other way apart from a friend.

That sort of stuff you don't just "forget to mention" or "assumed I knew" which are both things he used as excuses.

boys are such dorks.

"Here" Peter handed me a bottle of coke and sat next to me on the lawn to face the bonfire. I had been sitting here for about twenty minutes alone with my thoughts and a blanket wrapped around my shoulders.

"Thanks" I said sighing then letting my head rest against his broad shoulder. Why couldn't life just be simple? Why cant life either have me worried about boys or zombies, not make me juggle both at the same time!

Life's a bitch.

"So, what you thinking about?" Peter asked me breaking me from my glazed over bliss and frantic thoughts.

I laughed cynically "everything" I replied shrugging my blanket from my over heating shoulders and throwing my hands up in defeat.

"You still mad at Max?" He asked as he pulled some grass out of the ground. I gave him the "are-you-freaking-seriously-asking-me-that" look.

He got the picture.

"You cant stay mad at him forever, you or him could die any day, either leaving him in a guilty miserable pit for the rest of his life, or leaving you in a guilty, self-loathing pit for the rest of your life!" As I placed my hands over my face conflicted my brain screamed

screw Max, he brought it upon himself

and my heart screamed

You know Peters right

But I still had no idea what to do.

Soon Paxton came out and sat with us too and began chatting about her day, swimming at the lake, doing cartwheels up the driveway with Mason. once she finished talking i started to tell her about my day. She seemed shocked but Pax is a horrible liar, and when i told her about Max liking me,her mouth said "wow, really?" But her face screamed "how could you not know". One thing i learnt from today is I'm a complete and utter idiot.

Out of the blue I made up my mind.

"Hey guys, I think I need to talk to Max..." I said trailing off. They nodded in agreement.

Quickly I went to go find Max. I started to search upstairs. without any luck I started knocking on his bedroom door. "Max?" I whispered afraid he might be asleep.

No answer

"Max!?" I said a little louder.

No answer

"That's it I'm coming in" My hand turned the door and it swayed open with ease.

Empty.

huh. Weird

I heard the shower running, approaching the door i started to yell his name "MAX!" no answer. I knocked and again no answer, maybe he cant hear me over the water running.

"Car?" The voice made me jump.

I turned around to finally see who i was searching for, Max.

"Hey, I was just looking for you! I thought you were in here" I said pointing to the door.

He shook his head. "Nah, I don't even know whose in there"

"Oh" I said shrugging it off.

"We need to talk" I said ushering him into my bedroom, and quickly shutting the door.

"Yeah sure. What's up?" He asked casually

I frowned and crossed my arms. Was he serious?

"Oh I don't know..." I said condescendingly and pacing the floor impatiently

"Maybe, the fact that you have apparently liked me for years and only told me now! Or maybe the fact that you kissed me in front of Peter after you knew how much I liked him? Or-"

"I get it" Max interrupted, his eyes locked to the floor, hands in his pockets.

I closed my mouth, to stop myself from ranting on and making the situation worse.

Exhaling loudly, I made my way to the end of the bed and sat down. My head was racing, I wanted to yell at him, but I knew I couldn't.

"Why didn't you tell me...?" I asked, tipping my head up to him, looking him in the eye.

Max ran his hand through his hair and his eyes darted out the window then back to me.

"I-I don't know, doubts I guess? Rejection? Worried I would ruin our friend ship?"

I laughed cynically, then snorted extremely in attractively.

I could sense he felt bad and became quiet.

"Sorry"

"It's fine" he replied flatly.

"No really max. I know how hard it is to like someone and them not like you back"

His face lit up a bit, then he smiled warmly.

"You're quite understanding Carmen. Maybe that's why I like you so much" he continued.

Blushing I stood up and hugged him.

"Someone, someday, will get the Privilege to be your girlfriend."

My head rest upon his chest softly. Max smelt so good, clean and simple. Yet strong and manly.

"But I don't think, I'm that girl" I finished looking up at him.

"Don't worry about it Car" Max said, taking a weight off my shoulders.

"We can still be besties right?" I said full of hope

"Of course" he yelled happily, then hugged me tighter.

*******

After the talk we met the rest of the group outside, conversation was sparked and laughter filled the Air

Scanning the backyard I noticed someone was missing.

Make that two people.

"Hey where's Karli and Garret?" I asked confused.
I hadn't seen them all day, although last night Karli seemed a little upset. But I didn't think much of it, everyone has been a little down because of Macy lately.

"I saw Garret a couple hours ago, eating in the kitchen" Mason piped up.

A pang of worry enveloped my stomach.

"Come on, we have to find them" I said standing up and brushing loose grass off my tights.

As usual, the rest of the group stood up and we set off to find the lost members.
