Birch Here. My week has been crazy. Stomping out evil from the world, attacking rouge groups of keronians, desroing a plastic model of the world over and over… The works. But anyway, today is my faerie day. So enjoy The Collaboration Files, Chapter Twenty Five, Enter Jene... Again.

I had just finished explaining my dream to the group, when the water in front of us exploded, revealing a silvery creature with a noodle-like body. I had no arms, only two legs, and it’s tail looked like an eel’s. This was obviously a swimmer, as its body was streamlined. As it rippled, I could see it’s head looked a lot like a dragon’s. Dragon’s were real!? My father had once shown me a book his ancestor had once made, leather bound, with pictures of every kind of dragon in them. Ouroborus, the dragon of life, held it’s tail in it’s mouth, and my father’s ancestor, Dr. Dusille, told us that this might just be that it likes to hold it’s tail in it’s mouth, and it didn’t necessarily have to mean it was upholding the balance of life. Ironically, when a team of researchers from America in 2011 decided to remove it’s tail from it’s mouth, the Ouroborus went on a rampage, and killed all of the people in the room. Scientists and explorers alike.

Anyway, the best I could describe this animal was… It looked like a sea serpent. A silver one. Except it wasn’t… Its teeth were longer than a sea serpent’s, and the tail was completely wrong. I was about to speak up, when another serpent-thing burst from the water before the boat. It reared its ugly head, and uttered a long, drawn out shriek. This one was larger than the first. It slammed its body against the rim of the boat, sending it rocking and shaking, and water spilling over the edge. The tiny boat began to move quickly away from the serpents. It all happened so quickly, no one had time to react to the ‘attack’. When everyone had apparently recovered, the two serpents were gone, leaving only a bunch of bubbles in their wake.

“A nest,” I spurted out, surprised to find my voice was steady. “Those were the parents. I bet the first nudge was a warning, and if we get closer they’ll rip this boat apart like a twig.”

“NUDGE!?” Lizzy ran to the edge of the boat, and peered over the edge, straining to see into the water. “That was a frogging wallop!”

I chuckled mysteriously. “Haven’t we met them before?”

Liz whirled on me. “You had a memory?”

“Ja, WE have. I had a memory earlier on.”

                “You never told me!”

“Read the book sometime. Anyways, yea, we were running from them, and ended up in some underwater cavern. I think you were hurt…. That’s about where it ended. We might’ve disturbed the nest.”

I looked over at Holly. He eyes were focused out on the sea; right in the place the two serpents had disappeared. Artemis sort of hovered in the background, Butler was melted into shadow, and Liz was looking at me.

“What do we do?” Holly finally spoke up.

My Mobil buzzed just then, saving me from trying to answer. I backed into a corner, pressed the receive button, and put the phone to my ear.

                “Hello?”

Hello.”

The voice sounded familiar.

“Can I help you?”

“Yes. You can step off the boat and die.”

I raised my eyebrow. Right to the point, I see. “You want me to die?”

“You heard me. Or do you have ears?”

I hung up. The conversation was going to go nowhere. I made to step back near the main deck, when something caught my foot, and I tripped backwards. I grabbed a nearby tub of life vests to try and steady myself, and heard a protesting, “HEY!”

All talk ceased. The only sound was the dull thud of waves lapping against the edge of the vessel. Then, I reached inside the plastic tub, and pulled out a disgruntled Jenevieve. She shielded her eyes from the sun, and looked at me.

“What-no-HOW did you get here?” I chided her.

“Heard you talking about Ireland, and followed you onto the plane. Jumped out with that mini parachute Kali made me, and saw this boat with you guys on it. So I swam over, and stowed away.”

I mentally face palmed myself. She was good. And it was such a simple sounding plan. Anyone could have thought of it, but none of us did really did. It was totally predictable. Hiding in plain sight. Clever.

“Can I stay with you and Liz?” Jene looked expectantly at me.

I sighed. “Fine. But no hiding unless it’s for a spy thing, or if you did something bad that someone found out was you and they’re going to punish you. Those are the only exceptions.”

I led her by the scruff of her neck to the front deck, and pushed her in the middle of the spontaneous circle that had been made. Holly looked Jene up and down, and then looked over at Artemis.

“Don’t shoot her,” He answered her silent question.

“Did he mean that?” Jen whispered to me.

I chuckled waywardly. “Yes, dear child, yes he did.”
