I heard the ring on the phone next to my head and I jerked upright. I grabbed the phone and answered it quickly, not to wake Syd.

"Hello? This better be good to wake me up!" I groaned. There was a chuckle on the other side. I instantly knew who it was.

"Artemis! If you touched one tiny thing in my house, I swear up and down I will slit your throat!!!" I screamed through the phone. Syd sat up and rubbed her eyes, looking at me like I was crazy, and I probly was.

"Relax. I have done nothing to your family members. They all sit in front of me, unharmed and tied up." He said. "The same with Birch's." I exploded some more.

"If you don't let them go now, I will personally cut off each one of your fingers and toes! Then I will start slowly cutting chunks of your arms and legs off! When they're done, I will make sure you wont bleed out and I will leave you to die!!!!!! A long and pain filled death!" I screeched.

Syd grabbed the phone out of my hands and pressed it to her ear.

"What do you want, Artemis?" She asked, she was calm and collective. Unlike me, who had gotten up and started kicking the bed. Syd hung up the phone and looked at me.

"LIZ! Settle down, now! You're going to get us kicked out!" She ordered. I sat on the floor, my legs in a criss-cross potion. I closed my eyes and my breath became slow and shallow. I reopened my eyes and stood.

"What did he say?" I asked, now calm. She grimaced.

"He told me that he wanted us to come back. If we didn't, then we would never see our parents again. I think he was bluffing though." She told me. I felt the rage build inside but controlled it. I would let it out when the time was right.

"How cliche. I mean really! If you don't do what I say, you will never see your parents again!" I laughed. Syd looked at me. "What?" I asked.

"That's exactly what he said. . . Creepy!" She laughed. Wow, It seemed like we where taking this to well. I stopped laughing and looked around the room. "What's up?" She asked.

I walked up to her and spoke into her ear. "I wonder if he's watching us right now. That would be creepy." She laughed and pulled me down next to her, speaking in whispers.

"We have to assume that he is. We have to think that he is watching us every second of the day and night. We can't let our guard down for a second." I nodded and stood. I started picking up the room and putting everything away.

"Well, If we want to see our parents again, then we better get going. Help me make the beds." I said and we started packing. When we where done, we looked around the room, making sure we had everything. I looked to the bathroom.

I opened the bathroom door and looked around there. Nothing. Everything was spotless. I had an idea and opened the cupboard under the bathroom sink. Sitting there, was a large black box. I slid it out and called for Syd to come over.

She looked over my shoulder as I slowly opened it. Sitting inside of the box was a. . .

"A cell phone?" Syd asked. I grabbed it out and held it in the palm of my hand. It was a nice looking phone. An IPod phone. I opened it looked at the screen. It had a password. I could decode it on the way back home. I closed the black box, with phone inside, and slid it into my backpack.

We grabbed our stuff and went into the elevator. We hit the first level and waited as the doors slid closed. We where on the third floor when the elevator jerked to a stop, the lights flickering. Syd looked at me with a worried look on her face.

"Don't worry, Syd. I just have a feeling that our little 'friend' is playing games with us. We'll just wait this out, okay?" I said. She just nodded and set her bags down. I pressed the maitness button and heard a buzz.

"Is everything alright in elevator 2?" Someone asked.

"Um, not really. The elevator has stopped moving and the lights are flickering. It is quite annoying and my friend and I would like to be removed, immediately." I said into the mic.

"Can do! We'll have you out in a minute or two." The boy said. I sighed and sat down, not wanting to waist any energy. Syd sat down next to me and sighed. We waited and waited. After about 20 minutes, the elevator started moving again. It went to the first floor and dinged open.

We groaned at grabbed our bags. "Took ya long enough." I muttered under my breath. We walked out of the elevator and to the front desk.

"We are checking out. And I would like to report a complaint. The elevator was stuck, with us in it. I do not recommend this hotel to friends." Syd said. She placed the room key on the desk and we walked out. We got a taxi and drove to the airport. I knew Syd hated flying, but she would have to deal with it.

Once we where on the plane and in the air, I relaxed and slumped in my seat. I closed my eyes for a minute and the next thing I knew, Syd was shaking me awake.

"We're landing. Lets get out of here. I'll call a limo, I'm tired of riding in taxies. They're discusting!" I laughed and we got off the plane. We went to a payphone and called a limo. While waiting outside, I took out the box and phone. I slid the phone in my pocket and put the box back in my pack.

The limo finally came and we got in, thankful to be off our feet once again. I plopped in the seat and buckled in. Syd doing the same. I looked up at the driver and saw the worst sight of my life. Sitting in the drivers seat was a large man with a shaved head.

In the passenger seat was the one and only, Artemis Fowl. I laughed and he looked at me funny.

     "How cliche!"
