My Only Exception

Birthday!

It has been one month since Liam has started school here. We're now a couple! I know what you're thinking, "What! But she doesn't date!" Well, I thought Liam was the guy for me because we had so much in common and we always HAD fun together but he is just too nice. I always thought I would fall for the nice guy over the bad boy. I guess I was wrong! Liam's an awesome boyfriend though. He's always buying me stuff and feeding me compliments (See what I mean about being too nice).

Meanwhile Nate and I are really close! We're good friends now, even though he's really annoying. Finally, my window had been fixed and I moved back in. Nate comes to sleep over sometimes but nobody knows.

Today is a very special day to me. Can you guess? You're...

RIGHT! It's my birthday! And it's a Saturday! Thank God!

I got up out of bed and went to the bathroom to shower and 'freshen up'.

When I came out, Nate was standing there looking lost and confused.

"Hey Kat! Probably want to know why I'm here. I wanted to be the first to tell you..." 

I was so excited to hear Nate tell me happy birthday!

"Tell me what?"

"Well, my grandparents are visiting! Aren't you happy?"

I could have slaughtered him then and there, if only I knew what slaughter meant. 

"Well, I don't know your grandparents, Nate. Why would I be happy?"

"Aren't you happy you're going to meet them."

"Yes, Nate. I'm happy I'm going to meet them."

"Why have you gone all calm?"

He's was scared of calm me because it was worse than when I'm angry.

I think I'm ready to explode NOW!!

"NATHAN BENEDICT CHARLES, DO YOU KNOW WHAT TODAY IS?!?"

He was nervous because he starting running his fingers through his hair- he always does that when he's nervous.

"Um, Saturday?"

He sounded pretty unsure even though it is Saturday but that wasn't the answer I was looking for.

"THAT'S ALL TODAY IS! SATURDAY? I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!"

"Can't believe what? Is it our freniversary?"

"NO, YOU IDIOT!"

"What is it then?"

"If you don't know, why should I tell you?" I stormed out, even though it was my room and I should have out him out but I didn't really think this through.

I left the house and went to Liam's.

Unlike Nate, he actually remembered. 

I walked up to the door rang the doorbell. Liam's mother answered the door.

"Hi sweetie! Happy birthday!"

"Thanks, Mrs. Nicholson! How'd you know?"

"How could I not? That's all Liam's been talking about for the past week!"

"Mom!" called out an irritated voice.

"Why are you embarassing me?" Liam told his mother.

"Sorry honey." she kissed his forehead and walked into the kitchen.

"It wasn't embarassing, Liam. It was sweet! I can't believe you remembered."

"How could I forget your birthday? I'd have to be a fool to do that!"

I instantly thought of Nate. He IS a fool!

Liam leaned down and gave me a peck then he spun me around.

"You're beautiful. Did I ever tell you that?"

I blushed.

"You might have but another time won't hurt."

"You're beautiful!" he exclaimed.

"You're not so bad yourself."

We went up to his room and he said he was going to get my present.

When he came back, he was holding a beautiful silver necklace with a pendant that read L HEARTS K. It was so beautiful that I began to cry.

"You don't like it?" Liam asked worriedly.

"No, I don't like it."

He started rambling on saying he could always return it but I kissed kim and told him, " I LOVE IT!" I hugged him tightly.

"And I love you." he said.

This was the first time he had said he loved me out loud. This is the first time a guy has ever told me he loves me (probably because I don't date-didn't date). I was so shocked that I began stuttering like an idiot.

"Don't worry." he reassured me. "You don't need to respond. I just needed to tell you."

"Well, thanks! I think I'm still in shock!"

I need to get out of here ASAP to clear my head! What to do?

"Liam, I gotta go meet Jen so I'll see you tonight?"

"Sure."

I hopped into my car and went to my house.

When I opened the door, I screamed. There was a person sitting there. Luckily, it was Nate.

He stood up and wrapped me in his arms and whispered in my ears, "I am so sorry, Kat! I had no idea today's your birthday. I'm so sorry that I forgot. Will you please forgive me?"

This was the soft side of Nate that no one sees in school. 

"That's OK, Nate. But you'll have to work to be fully forgiven."

"Whatever it takes."
