Cameron's POV
"So, Cameron" Lexie's dad comments, placing his napkin down onto the table. "I'm assuming that you're in Lexie's grade?"
"Yep" I nod, grabbing my own napkin and wiping my mouth with it.
"That's good" he nods, "most relationships aren't successful when between two people of opposite years."
What?
"That's not true, dad" Lexie speaks up so that I don't have to. "Caitlin and her boyfriend are still together, and she was a junior when he was a senior."
"Yes" he sends Caitlin a glance and she shrinks down in their seat. "They're very happy together."
"What's wrong?" Lexie asks Caitlin confused.
"Nothing" she mutters.
"Liar" Lexie accuses, placing her fork down onto the table."I've known you for 17 years, Caitlin. I can tell when you're lying."
"Fine" she sighs. "We broke up."
Lexie spits out her drink, making it fly across the table and spray onto Caitlin's face.
It takes everything in me not to laugh.
"WHAT?!" Lexie exclaims with wide eyes. "What the hell do you mean you broke up?"
"We broke up" Caitlin repeats herself slowly. "How much clearer do I have to say it?"
"When did this happen?" Lexie asks shocked, picking up her napkin and handing it to Caitlin so she can wipe her face.
"A week or so ago" Caitlin shrugs nonchalantly, wiping her face quickly before placing the napkin back onto the table.
Lexie looks offended. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because I know you, Lexie" she rolls her eyes, "and I know for a fact that A it's technically none of your business, and B If I had told you you would have done everything in your power to get us back together -- something neither of us want right now."
That does sound like Lexie to me......
"That's not true!" Lexie defends herself, "I would have been understanding, dumbass."
"LEXIE!" Her mom scolds, sending a glare in her direction and dropping her fork on the table with a bang. "I will not tolerate that kind of language around the table. Apologize."
"No way."
"Lexie" Her mom narrows her eyes in warning. "Don't make me ask you again."
Lexie stares at her for a moment before sighing and rolling her eyes. "Fine." She turns to Caitlin, "I'm sorry that you broke up with your boyfriend."
"Lexie!" Her mom exclaims.
"What?" She asks innocently, "I apologized, just like you told me to."
"I can't believe this" her mom pinches the edge of her nose. "You're a handful."
"Thanks mom."
