Jessie's POV
Everything comes out backwards.
Nothing in my head is that way.
I think of the words normally, but they come out backwards.
I feel myself shaking, not from cold, but from fear.
"Whoa, hey. Its okay Jessie." Petra comfort, wrapping her arms around me to try and keep me calm like I had been attempting to do with her before.
I shake my head, looking up at her, eyes filled with tears.
"Artep yako ton s'ti fi tahw?" I whisper, feeling tears leak from my eyes at the sound of the words.
Her wide eyes say it all.
She has no clue what I'm saying at all.
Chapter Nine- Symptoms?
I rest my forehead against her shoulder, silently crying.
Notch even my whimpers seemed to come out backwards!
I feel her arms holding me tightly, and that's the one thing that reminds me that I am safe.
Just terribly confused and scared, but safe.
As long as she's with me I'm safe...
"I hate to say it, but Jessie's right. She's not okay." Jennifer puts in her ten sent, making me look up.
She understands me!
At least someone can understand me, though I would have had it been a friend if I could have chosen.
But it works I guess....
"You can understand her?" Olivia asks, looking impressed.
Jennifer nods, looking sad.
"We had a lot of prisoners that had gotten bit just outside The Master's fortress, from being so exposed to them, I learned backwards speak easy, and ended up translating each other to others, giving their final goodbyes to other bitten friends. It was an aweful thing, but no one else would go near those infected." She answers, making me shudder.
It made it sound like it was contageous.
"That sounds terrible. Why would you let them stay in the prision and not escape?" Lukas asks, cocking his head to the side.
Her ears droop down.
"I was working an the cure, the thing that would fix them all, put them back to normal. I wanted to keep them safe until I figured it out. But by the time I completed the cure, they were all gone." She mutters, making us all look down.
Axel though...
He doesn't seem to buy it.
"Yeah right! How do we know we can trust you when you've been with this... Master the whole time? Is he even real? Or are you trying to fool us into following you into a death trap?" He causes her, making her ears flatten to the back of her head.
"How the hell could you even say that?! I've was teleported here, which was disorienting enough. Risked angering The Master to warn you, and was going to offer you the cure for her, but now I'm not sure!" She growls, crossing her arms.
Panic goes through me.
"Eruc taht deen I! On on on!" I shout, making everyone turn towards me.
Jennifer sighs.
"I know you need it. I'll help you get it, but know that he has to play nice." She growls, gesturing over at Axel.
He crosses his arms, looking like he's about to decline, then I give him a look.
