Chapter 39:

Jessica's POV:

"Ew, you look unattractive today," Eliza smirked from the couch. I snorted and rubbed the back of my hand across my mouth.

"I could've slept on the plane ride over here if you hadn't been freaking out the whole time!" I pointed out and walked to the kitchen of our temporary apartment. "We were in first class. First class, Eliza," I added, glaring at her.

Yes, we were finally in New York. Honestly, I could be a lot more excited about it than I am, but I'm just so tired. We arrived at the Elephant Butte Deluxe Apartment Building very late last night, or should I say this morning? Did you also notice how the name doesn't make sense? That's how you know it's expensive.

Lauren booked me and my plus one, Eliza, seats in first class and it started out amazing. The seats were so, so soft and we had personal Tv's and everything. It was even fine the first few minutes after takeoff, until the safety presentation was made and the attendant said we could use our seats as floatation devices.

"I couldn't help it! She said float, and she was smiling," Eliza protested. I rolled my eyes at her then noticed she was playing on my phone. Oh yeah, and she dropped her phone in the airplane toilet then somehow flushed it.

I struggled to open the fridge, which slides open to the sides rather than the traditional swinging doors. It was like nothing I've ever seen before. Inside was all of the food that I'd need to survive the next two weeks and more. Except for that fact that it was all healthy food, nothing fattening in sight.

"YOUR PHONE'S RINGING!" Eliza announced loudly accompanied by my phone going off and a knock on the front door. We shared a look, and she pushed my phone against her ear while I ran to the door.

I struggled to open it because the door was so huge, and once I did I felt the cool air in the room being pushed out into the hallway. Lauren, who stood in front if the door, didn't seem fazed. "Ew, you look gross," she said, walking past me.

I pouted and shoved the door closed. "Way to be a bitch," I replied, following her to the table in between the living room and kitchen. It had an amazing view of New York City through the glass walls. It wasn't too high, but high enough to get a good view.

"That's part of my job, sweetheart," she smirked and started pulling papers from her bag.

"Yeah, she really misses you," I heard behind me.

"Who's on the phone?" I asked Eliza.

She smirked and winked. "Louis," she answered. My mouth dropped open, and I climbed over the couch.

"What?" I shrieked, then instantly shut up knowing he could probably hear me.

"Yeah, she's been so upset that you couldn't come."

I jumped on top of her, reaching for my phone. "Eliza!" I hissed quietly as she held it out of her reach.

"Yes, Jessica?" she asked sweetly, batting her eyelashes despite the fact I'm tackling her.

"Give me the phone," I cried.

She shoved me off the couch, and I landed on the unbelievably soft carpet, while she ran away. And I mean unbelievably soft, not just nicely. It was like Tempur-Pedic mattress soft. If you put your face on it your nose wouldn't smash. It would simply sink into the carpet until it was basically a mold of your face. It was scary and comfortable.

I ran after Eliza, pleading for my phone. "You hear that, Louis? She's begging to talk to you!" she exclaimed loudly so I could hear her. I flushed of embarrassment and followed her into one of the spare rooms in this massive apartment. I reached out my arms and shoved her forwards so she landed on her stomach on the bed. I jumped on her back and pinned her down.
