Chapter 42:

Jessica's POV:

"I'm beating you! I'm beating you! I'M FUCKING BEATING YOU! DO YOU SEE THIS!?"

I ignored Eliza's screaming as I focused on the screen, desperate to gain about 200 more points and beat her. The song was coming to an end fast, and my moves were beginning to grow sloppy. "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THIS!" she screamed again, her ego showing very clearly at this point.

"No!" I screamed as the dance came to a close and announced Eliza the winner, "I was only 50 points behind!" She shrugged, dropping her Wii remote and smirking at me. "You may be a good singer, but I'm the one who has the dancing skills," she gloated.

The two of us played every song on Just Dance 2014 and were well into making our second round. Out of all those rounds, I won exactly seven of them. I swear she's cheating.

Eliza picked up her new cellphone and started texting as she did between the past few rounds. It's the latest version of some big name brand that I don't recognize. What I do know about it, though, is that it's extremely expensive. That, and she used my money to pay for it.

"But you're famous now! It won't be too long before you're, like, a... millionaire or something! This can be my birthday present or something!"

That was her excuse. Normally, I would be pissed, but I wasn't. I was beyond that when I saw what else she bought.

Eliza bought around eight Wii games (six more than told), her new phone, a set of headphones for us each, a wireless speaker, a $50 iTunes gift card for herself, and a Bruno Mars cardboard cutout.

She actually surprised me with that last one. A lobby employee offered to help her carry it up, so when he walked into the room carrying it in front of him all I saw was Bruno walking towards me. Needless to say, what I did would've embarrassed me if it really was him.

I flipped out on her, and her excuse came out then. Lauren broke us up right away. She explained to Eliza why spending my money was inappropriate because it wasn't hers and that she didn't buy her anything. That resulted in one pair of headphones being given to her.

Eliza apologized and I, still being pissed, reluctantly forgave her. As my cousin went to set up a Wii game, Lauren reassured me that as my career grew, money wouldn't be a problem. In fact, the amount of cash I made from the past couple interviews easily covered Eliza's shopping spree.

So, four hours later, my anger was gone and replaced by frustration from losing. "What song do you want to do now?" I asked, flicking through the selection. Eliza shrugged, still texting on her phone. "You pick," she instructed.

I chose Where Have You Been by Rihanna, and Eliza set down her phone. "Who were you texting?" I teased, nudging her with my shoulder. She looked over at me and smirked. "Some friends back home. I have to let everyone know about my gorgeous, new phone," I rolled my eyes, then focused back on the screen.

We started dancing and Lauren walked into the room, from what I could see out of the corner of my eye. "Jessica? Why'd you take your ankle brace off?" she asked. I couldn't tell if her tone was stern or just curious.

"It was too tight and I didn't need it. I feel fine," I answered in somewhat of a 'duh' tone. She said a simple 'okay' before continuing on about an interview I had tomorrow morning. I was only half listening.

"Now, this one is a little different because it's a radio interview-" "Finally! An interview I can show up looking like shit and not care," I cut her off, suddenly feeling a lot happier about tomorrow. "Not so fast. You can't show up looking like shit because pictures will be taken and so will videos. You still need to look decent, but not as nice," she explained further.
