"It's time." I said jumping down from the ladder and meeting Pan and Felix in their cells.
"What do you mean?" Pan questioned.
"I know all of Jacob's plan. He's planning to take over the enchanted forest and we don't have much time."
"I say tomorrow night this all ends." Felix replied.
"Okay, tomorrow night ___ will find the keys and set us free. Then we stop Jacob." Pan added
"How do we stop him? And just how far are we going here?"
"You and I will combine powers and hopefully that will be enough. And as much as I know you won't agree with this, I think we may have to kill him."
I looked at the floor and sighed,
"I was afraid you would say that."
Felix butted in,
"I'm just going to be honest here. I don't think you two have enough power to defeat him. I mean he's been absorbing fairy dust for months now."
"We have to at least try." Pan replied.
"And where did that get us last time? Look at where we are now, Pan. We're behind bars."
"We don't have many options here Felix. I'll be here tomorrow night...and we'll end this."
I turned and made my way back to the treehouse. Later in the night I heard a faint knock on the door. I sat up,
"Is someone there?"
The door opened and I could make out Jacob's face in the darkness.
"It's me."
"What's wrong?"
He walked over and sat at the foot of the bed.
"I was just thinking, about what you said...how I've changed and all that."
"Yeah, well a lot has changed since Madam Ackerley's place."
"I'm actually glad you brought that up. I have something to show you."
He handed me a wax-sealed envelope and added,
"Madam Ackerley wrote this to you after you were taken by Pan's shadow. We never thought we'd see you again. I thought I'd never see you again. But then I was taken here, and there you were."
I looked down at the letter and tore it open:
To my ___,
All these years I've watched you grow from a scared little girl to a confident young woman. You're brave and have a kind heart full of goodness and love—I'm truly sorry I couldn't give you a home and a family. I want you to know I care about you deeply, and love you as if you were my own daughter...and I hope that's enough. I know it's not nearly as much as you deserve. Wherever you are, I hope you're safe and happy, and know you always have a place to come back to.
                           With much love,
                                          Madam Ackerley
I bittersweet feeling filled my stomach,
"Thank you for giving this to me, Jacob."
He smiled and said,
"I know I've changed. But I want you to know you still and will always have me as a friend."
He wrapped his arms around me and a tear ran down my cheek. I couldn't possibly kill him...
