I searched through drawers and boxes in Jacob's room, but the key was no where to be found. Anxiety began to build up in my chest, I knew that he would be back soon.
One of the books on his desk caught my eye.
"Jacob hates Pride and Prejudice," I said to myself while picking it up.
Sure enough, when I opened the cover the book was hollowed out and a key had been placed inside.
I heard the door creak opened and turned, hiding the key behind my back.
"Jacob!"
"What are you doing here?" He asked in tempered tone.
I stood silent as he walked over and took my hand, moving away my fingers to reveal what I was holding.
"You're letting them go, aren't you?" He said even more furious.
"Of course not! I told you, I hate Peter Pan."
He let out an unsettling chuckle and walked out of the room,
"If you say so."
He didn't even take the key.
Jacob's reaction brought an uneasiness to my mind. What was he going to do?
Sunset came and the sky turned a bright orange. I hadn't heard from Jacob that afternoon and feared that maybe he had figured out our plan for tonight.
The silence was broken by a loud, low-pitched scream, then another. I rushed down from the treehouse to see Pan tied to a wooden post in the middle of the camp, and even worse, Jacob electrocuting him with his magic. Another bolt shot out from Jacob's hands and Pan gritted his teeth and let out another horrifying scream.
"What are you doing?!" I yelled.
Jacob turned to me with the most malicious expression I'd ever seen,
"You said you hated him. I'm doing you a favor."
Jacob shocked him again and he winced in pain.
Pan looked me in the eye for a brief moment. The fact that I had seen him like this hurt him more than the physical pain.
Again, Jacob sent out another bolt.
Tears began to run down my cheeks,
"STOP IT!" I bawled.
"Okay." He said turning towards me with a sickening grin. Whoever this was, it wasn't Jacob anymore.
He continued,
"I'll stop. But only because I know you'd much prefer to do it yourself."
"What?"
He quickly cast a spell on me and I no longer had any control over my body. Jacob moved me in position to face Pan and made me shoot bolts out from my own hands.
I attempted to move with all my strength, but I was stuck. There I stood as Pan was tortured by my own magic.
A deep anger formed inside of me and I bursted out,
"ENOUGH!"
Without thought, my hand shot back at Jacob, sending him backwards off his feet. I slowly walked over to him.
"___, what are—"
I ripped his heart from his chest and said harshly,
"Don't you dare speak."
I looked into his eyes and saw darkness instead of the friend I once knew, and with one firm crush, his heart was dust in my hand...
