RILEY
Maya crawls through the window again. She sits down, but doesn't even look at me. Just stares at the wooden floor.
"Where did you go?" I asked.
"I went to talk to Lucas. He's all yours," she said.
"What!? Maya! Why did you do that?"
"Because Riley, I don't think it should just be us that decides this. Someone needed to give Lucas an extra push."
"What about what you feel Maya? You can't keep doing this to yourself."
"I'm not doing anything. This is the way it should be, you and Lucas. And I'm the supportive friend in the background."
What is this crap coming out of her mouth? Maya would never say that stuff about herself. What has gotten into her?
I needed to snap some sense into her. "Good, I didn't want you to date Lucas anyway."
"What?" she finally questioned.
"I liked him first, so he's my boyfriend. I don't think you should have anything to do with him. What are you gonna do about that?" I throw my hands up in fake frustration.
"Now that I hear you say it out loud, do you think I was being selfish?" she says.
"What?! Maya, you would never let me say the things I'm saying to you right now. You would always fight for what you believe in. Especially me, fight me!" I cried.
Maya just turned and looked at me. I said "If you like Lucas, than you're gonna have to take him from me!"
"You'd let me?" she looked at me with no emotion on her face.
"No! You want to know why? You taught me that! I'm fighting for what I like and so should you!"
"What if I don't want to fight?" she said, still with a blank face.
"Maya" I tried looking into her eyes, but she just looked back at the floor. "Where are you?"
"What?" her eyes were glassy but there were no tears.
"Where did you go?"
Maya stared at me, blank face and all, then crawled out the window. Where did the Maya Hart I know go?

Just so we're clear: I am not going down the "Maya turned into Riley" story path. I hated that excuse for a story line. I'm going down somewhere COMPLETELY different.
