Chapter 3
Isabella
It's been an extremely slow day today at the bookstore. Slower than usual. I guess the reason could be that it's storming outside, but I'm not going to complain. That just gives me more time to catch up on my reading.
Dorothy is in the back doing some paper work. I'm supposed to be doing inventory, but I'd rather read instead.
I'll do inventory tomorrow.
My phone buzzes in my pocket and I see that it's Gabi asking me do I mind if she picks up Carson from school. I tell her that I don't mind.
Our friendship has grown over the past couple of months. We're practically sisters now. We have tons of things in common. She met Carson about a month ago and Carson has fallen in love. They've been irresistible ever since.
My ears perk up when I hear the bell from the door.
Who in the world is coming here in this weather?
"Hello Bella?"
Oh God.
I peek from above my book and not only do I see Maceo, I also Matteo trailing behind him with his famous smirk gracing his face.
I haven't seen these two since Gabi and I went to the restaurant a few months ago.
"Good afternoon guys. How may I help you?" I say, trying to remain professional.
Matteo rolls his eyes. "We've missed you. How come you haven't came back to the restaurant?" He questions leaning against the counter.
I snort. "If you haven't noticed, I can't afford it."
They both laugh. My eyes narrow at them. Are they making fun of me?
"We wouldn't make you pay." Matteo states.
"And from how Gabi talks about you, you're family now dolcezza." Maceo smirks at me.
I let out a sigh of annoyance. "Well I see. Also, you're restaurant is like thirty minutes away from my house and if you haven't noticed, I don't have a car."
"Let us worry about that."
I look at them, trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
I just end up nodding my head and I go back to reading my book.
I hear one of the clear their throats, but I ignore them. A few seconds later, my book is being snatched out of my hand.
"Give that back!" I demand as I stand up.
They both pout. "We just want to spend some time with you Isabella."
"And may I ask why is that? I'm working you know." I ground out. I just want my book back.
"It doesn't look like you're doing much work." Maceo says smugly.
Before I can respond, I hear the bell on the door again. All of our eyes divert to the man that just walked into the store.
"Guys leave her alone. It's time to go."
Holy shit. Another Italian?
This must be one of their other brothers. How do they get all of these perfect features?
Maceo and Matteo straighten up and nod their heads. They go to stand beside their brother.
The man approaches me with an outstretched hand. "I'm sorry about them. They told me they were coming in here to pick up some books for Gabi. I didn't know they were coming to harass you." He glares at the two standing behind him.
