Chapter Thirteen
Isabella
"I'm sorry Mr. Moretti, but I don't have anything to say to you." I try to say confidently, but my voice wavers slightly.
Lucca stands up from his seat and so does Santino. I see Gabi whisper something in Carson's ear and he runs out of the room. I'm going to assume he went upstairs somewhere.
"I thought I told you to stay away from her." Lucca spits out.
Leo looks at Lucca amusedly. "Does it look like I take orders from you?"
"If you are as smart as you claim you are, you would've stayed away."
"And is that a threat?"
"Dad, Lucca." Matteo steps in. "Calm down."
"You said you needed to talk to Bella, dad. About what?" Gabi asks.
Leo walks further into the living room and takes a seat on the chair by the fireplace. Maceo comes and sits besides me and everyone else took that as a sign to sit down as well.
"I think that's between me and Isabella, Gabrielle." He replies sweetly. She blows out a breath and sulks further into the couch.
"You can say what you have to say in front of everyone." I say. "I have nothing to hide."
He smirks. "How sweet."
"Just spit it out father." Lucca grounds out. I take ahold of his hand and unball his fist and intertwine our finger. I look at him out of the corner of my eye and see that he's still tense.
Great.
"I saw your mother a few days ago, Isabella."
My head snaps in his direction so fast I develop a crook in my neck.
"Dad... What did you do?" Maceo ask slowly.
Leo shakes his head. "I didn't do anything actually. I actually wanted to speak to you and apologize."
What the hell is going on?
Leo clears his throat. "Me and you guys mother went to high school with your mom. Your mom moved here during our junior year and your mothers started being friends right when she got there. They were irresistible until your mother found out about who I was, who my family is. Ever since, she would always try to keep you guys mother away from me every chance she got. She even called the cops out to the school one day and told them some ridiculous story which was a bad move on her part. My father made sure her life was a living hell for trying to break up the family."
I shake my head, stuck in a daze. "But what does this have to do with me and how you treated me?"
"After my father got a hold of your mother, she and her family packed up and moved to the side of town you're currently residing in which is where she met your dad. My father ran her out of our side of town. I didn't trust you. I thought your mother informed you on her adolescence activities and I thought that's why your were associating yourself with my preziosa figlia. I know Gabrielle can be a little too trusting when it comes to her friends so I needed to make sure you weren't like your mother."
I clear my throat. "But what would make you assume that I was going to do what my mother did even if she told me what she tried to do to you?"
"Because you're her family."
I shake my head and smile softly. "As you can see, family doesn't mean that much to my mother."
He nods stiffly. "I see. Well, I just want to apologize for previous actions and words. I thought you were going to be just like your mother, but I have been mistaken."
