Chapter 4

Isabella

I follow Lucca into the dining room and see that everyone is already seated.

I was going to take a sit beside Gabi but Matteo yanked me by my arm and I fell into the chair beside him. I rolled my eyes and let out a small huff.

These twins are going to be the death of me.

I looked up to Lucca and I saw that he had a blank expression on his face. Everyone else was just laughing to themselves.

"You could've just asked me to sit beside you instead of forcing me to." I glare at Matteo.

He laughs. "What's the fun in that?"

I roll my eyes and turn my attention to the food in front of me. It smells delicious and I haven't ate anything since this morning.

"Well let's eat everyone." Sophia announces.

In a blink of an eye, everyone digs into the food. Sophia grabbed a few things for Carson since this is first time eating Italian food. I just grab random things. I'm pretty sure it'll at taste fine.

I take a bite of the food and I have to suppress a moan. It's better than the food at the restaurant the twins home.

I feel a pair of eyes on me and I look up and see Lucca staring at me intensely. I turn my attention back to my food as a blush creeps up my neck onto my cheeks.

What's up with him?

"So Isabella, I hear that you and Gabi met at the bookstore you work at? Do you like it there?" Leo questions me after he swallows some of his food.

I swallow my food and nod my head. "I love it there. It's small and quiet. And plus, I love reading so why not work at a bookstore."

Everyone at the table laughs at my comment.

"So where do you stay?"

I clear my throat and look at him in confusion. He's face is passive, not giving anything away.

Why is this relevant?

"Me and Carson stay on the Westside of Detroit."

"In those terrible neighborhoods?"

I hear a few of them gasps. but I shake off the comment. I'm completely aware of the area I'm residing in, but why is he bringing it up?

"Dad!" Gabi says in shock.

I mean, it's true. We don't stay on the best side of of town but by the snide look on his face, he's trying to go somewhere else with his question.

Before I could respond, Carson speaks for the first time since we've sat down for dinner.

"Our neighborhood is pretty bad, but it's okay. We haven't gotten hurt like some people in our neighborhood. Izzy says it wasn't always like that. It use to be different until some people started to mess it up."

I stare at Carson in shock. Leo is looking at him in amusement before a small snarl rest on his face.

"Oh really?" Leo ask.

Carson nods his head absently and turn his attention back to his food.

"So what made your side of town go through such a drastic change?" Leo smirks at me. He knows why.

"I'm not sure."  I mumble under my breath. I start to pick at my food, suddenly losing my appetite.

Leo clasp his hands on top of the, leaving his food to the side.
