Chapter Sixteen

Isabella

Another slow day at the bookstore. It's been raining since I woke up this morning, so I guess it's going to be a slow all day. It's only eleven o'clock and I just know I'm not going to make it through the rest of the day due to my exhaustion. Lucca took me out to dinner last night, some expensive Japanese restaurant that's he's partnering with in the future. The Moretti's literally own everything in Detroit. He took me home after dinner and actually stayed the night with me, but of course he complained about my bed until he fell asleep. When I woke up, he had already left to go to work. But Lucca being the undercover sweet guy he is, he made Robert get me and Carson some breakfast. He specifically ordered him to have it there before we woke up. Well, that's what Robert told me.

Lucca is something else.

I've been doing inventory and stocking since I walked through the door. I've been trying to catch up with the things Dorothy usually does for the past few days. It's my fourth day working these long shifts and I think my body is finally giving out on me. I feel like my body is just on auto-pilot at this moment.

I push the cart into the science fiction, trudging my feet along. It's going to be a slow day.

I hear the bell go off from the door. "Welcome to Dorothy's." I yell slightly. The science fiction section is in the back of the store.

"Hello?" I hear a guys voice respond.

I abandon the cart and peek around the corner of the bookshelf and see a guy looking in all directions of the store until his eye land on me. He smiles instantly and walks in my direction.

"How may I help you?" I ask once he's in front of me.

"You're Isabella, right?"

Eyebrows furrowed, I nod my head curtly. Who is this guy?

"Great!" He smiles brightly. "I heard you were hiring."

In an instant, I put two and two together. "I'm going to take a wild guess and assume my wonderful boyfriend sent you." He smile falters and his eyes avert to the floor. I roll my eyes and lean against the bookshelf. "I'm going to take that as a yes."

His eyes go wide. "Please don't tell him that you know. He gave me strict orders to not leave here without the job."

I shake my head. Lucca always goes over the top, but he wouldn't be himself if he didn't. "How do you know him?"

His face pales at my question. "Mr. Moretti didn't even want you to know that he sent me."

I let out a grunt. "Well, I know so talk. How do you know him?"

"I work in the mail room at his company. He told me to come up to his office right when I got to work this morning. I thought he was firing me." He says nervously as he pushes his glasses further on his nose. "He went through the situation you're going through and what I needed to do. After a few details, I accepted his offer."

"And what were those small little details?"

He shakes his head. "I'm not suppose to disclose that information. He told me you were persistent, but I'm not aloud to tell you that."

"Of course." I say more to myself that to this guy. "What's your name?"

His smile comes back. "I'm Aiden."

"Well it's nice to meet you. I guess I have to give you the job..." He nods his head vigorously.

I let out a breath and walk back to the cart full of books I abandoned. Sometimes I forgot just who Lucca is. Outside of his illegal activities, he is a well-known business man. He's known for getting what he wants; taking what he wants actually. He's really demanding, so I'm not surprised he made one of his employees come here. I've come to the conclusion that he's crazy.
