Chapter Twenty-Six

Lucca

"Lucca, you need to stop bouncing your leg. It's getting annoying." I hear Santino mumble from beside me. I grumble under my breath, but seize the bouncing of my leg.

We've been sitting here for an hour, waiting for someone to tell us something. Santino has been typing away on his phone and making a few phone calls here and there. Who has he been talking to? I have no clue. My mind is preoccupied at the moment.

I've been trying to keep Isabella safe, but my effort have been failing. She has plenty of bodyguards. She doesn't even know about most of them. She still hasn't warmed up completely to Robert and Ron. Maybe she'll finally take some time off from the bookstore. I need her to be in safe areas while I handle this situation about Fillipe.

Just thinking about him makes my blood boil.

I've told him plenty of times to stay in his place but no. Fillipe thinks his ready to take over his family. If he hasn't noticed, all of his attempts to whatever his goal is has failed tremendously. I can't wait my brothers bring him to me. It's going to be a joyous day.

He's lucky my father is still in charge because if it was me, he would have been captured by now. But no, my father likes to take his time and get all of the unnecessary details first. It's rather ridiculous.

"Ms. Isabella Kennedy?" I hear a masculine voice. I scramble unto my feet and approach the doctor apprehensively. Santino is by my side in no time.

"Mr. Moretti?" The doctor questions nervously.

I sigh. "Is she okay?"

The doctor clears his throat and straightens himself out. "She's fine now. We're not sure what exactly happened. We have a few things we're considering. But first, can you tell me about anything that happened prior to her fainting?"

I run a hand through my hair stress fully. "She was attacked."

"That's all?"

I glare at the man. How dare he question me?

"Is there something that I don't know, doctor?"

His eyes widen slightly. "I-I was just asking," He stutters. "She has a first degree burn on her arm. Was that from the attack?"

I shake my head. "She was making herself some tea before she passed out. It's like her body froze up and she ended up pouring the water onto herself before she passed out."

"What do you mean she froze?" He looks intrigued now.

"I don't know, she just went rigid." I say as I start to get frustrated. "What's wrong with her?" I demand.

"I think she had a Vasovagal syncope. It can be generated from emotional trauma. That's the only thing that makes sense at the moment. We're going to keep her for the next few hours to just monitor her."

I nod my head dismissively. "Thanks doc."

He nods at us with a small smile. "She's resting now if you want to see her. You can follow me."

I follow after him instantly. Santino is a few steps behind me. The doctor stops in front of room 216.

"Here you are. If you need anything, just ask a nurse or press the button beside her bed and someone will come."

I nod before walking past him swiftly before. I enter the room hesitantly. Seeing Isabella just lying there, not moving, and emotionless... It's heartbreaking. I grab a chair and seat it directly beside her bed. Santino takes a seat by the window in the far corner of the room.
