Chapter 7: Fight! Fight! Fight! Part 2
"Hey everybody!" The announcer shouted, getting the crowd amped up. "We've got a special surpise for you all. Not only will we have a tournament today, buuuuttt," She drew out the word, earning more cheers of excitement. "Some students from the academy are gonna battle it out right here and now!"
"Why are they boardcasting this?" Izumi asked, slightly annoyed. "Its just an academy battle. Nothing special."
Shira was watching the announcer on the giant screen that was in their waiting room. "Don't you want people to see our victory? Then everyone will know that first years are just as skilled as second or third years." This made Izumi rethink her statement. Izumi loved going to the stadium. It was a rare treat, each grade from the academy took three field trips a year to the stadium. One to watch a live tournament, another for field training, and the final one for an academy game.
"You all know the rules." The announcer stated, signalling she wasn't going to go over them. "Today's match puts second years and first years against each other. Both groups are in their in-training years. Mellie's team has a one year advantage over Izumi's team. Five against three."
Naomi quietly ate her pocky as she waited for the announcer to finish. "Shira," Naomi turned to her friend. "Are we sticking to the plan?"
"Of course." Shira gave a knowing smile. While Izumi had been getting ready, Shira and Naomi made slight changes to their original plan.
The cheering of the crowd as Mellie's team entered the stadium brought the girls back to the task at hand. Just as Shira predicted, Mellie's team consisted of her and the four goons from that morning. They had choosen to wear matching track suits. Mellie stood proud, front and center for all to see. The smirk on her face as she took the mic, fueled Izumi's desire for victory. Mellie's speech was cut short by a bored announcer. "The underdogs, first year team Izumi!!" The crowd went wild wow, nothing like the 'underdog' to get people hyped.
The girls marched to the center of the arena. Izumi stood behind Naomi and Shira, lease she attack Mellie before the match started. That would end everything in Mellie's favor. "Two rounds, team and singles." The announcer continued, ignoring the tension between the teams. "Select who's fighting in the singles, everyone else will fight in the first round."
Naomi and Shira stepped forward for the first round team battle. Izumi and Mellie, took their places beside the announcer. Retreating to the announcer's booth, Izumi eyed Mellie's team. She had spaced out when Shira gave info on those four. She knew Naomi and Shira could handle themselves. They weren't ranked first among their graduating class from the middle grades. (This was for several reasons.) But they had more feild training then most of their classmates. (Thanks to Izumi not studying or doing homework).
"First team to knock out or subdo the other team wins. GO!!!" The announcer rang the bell, signalling the match to begin.
Naomi glanced at Shira, the other girl gave a small nod. Dashing forward, Naomi drew her nagatina. The two girls from Mellie's team charged for Naomi as the guys circled towards Shira. The first girl, threw ice daggers at Naomi. Her friend followed up a secondary attack with an energy wave. Naomi jumped up to avoid the daggers, choosing to take a direct hit by the energy wave. The crowd gasped, shocked by Naomi's reckless deiscion. While the two girls high fived each other, they failed to noticed a figure coming at them. Naomi used her momention from her fall, to direct her body to her target. She planted one foot into each of the girls faces, knocking them back as she kicked them.
Shira smirked, standing perfectly still as she was attacked from two different angles. The guys' attack hit its mark, spikes made if earth and an axe pierced Shira's body. A hush went over the crowd. Parents shielded their young children's eyes from the gruesome scene.
"You might want to pull your guard friend out before she ends up as a pin cushion also." Mellie's voice oozed fake sincerity. "I apologize for my teammates going over board. I did tell them to go easy, since your first years." Now her tone was just mocking.
Izumi said nothing, she crossed her arms over her chest to keep from shutting Mellie up herself.
Naomi glanced around, she was pinned into the center of the arena. After taking Shira down, the guys turned their sight to Naomi. The two girls were equally pissed with Naomi, shouting that she had ruined their make-up and how dare she put her dirty feet on them. Naomi placed her hand on her nagatina, drawing her weapon as the two girls went for her.
She deflected the first attack, using the staff of her weapon as a shield to push her attacker back. Naomi spun to the side, as the other girl tried to stab her. "Stay still!" The girl shouted, annoyed that none of their attacks had landed. Meanwhile, Naomi continued to dodge, counter, and block every attack. It wasn't that she couldn't take the hits, she just didn't feel like attacking yet.
"Need some help?" One of the guys called, mocking his teammates. The two males laughed at how the girls were having diffculty dealing with one first year. Instead of helping, they chose to simply watch and make sure Naomi stayed trapped in the center.
"Shut up and make yourselves useful!" The ice elementist girl called, as she blocked Naomi's kick with her arms.
Using her leg, Naomi pushed back against the girl's arm to put distance between them. "For second years, your pretty slow." She dashed forward, feinting to the right for a punch. At the last moment, she slid to the left and brung her blade down, slicing into the side of the ice girl. The girl's teammate tried to catch Naomi off guard from behind, but was met with the blunt end of the nagatina to the face.
Naomi pulled her weapon free, then slammed the blunt end into the girl's rib cage. Forgetting about ice girl, Naomi left herself open. The icy cold sting of an ice blade, got Naomi's attention. Smirking and holding her bleeding wound, the ice elementist had manger to plant one of her daggers into Naomi's back. The wound slowly began to bleed, the pain however was just a dull ache. If anything the girl only annoyed Naomi. How dare she ruin Naomi's clothes! Naomi sighed, she pulled the blade out, then toosed it at its owner. Naomi knew that she was wound and should probably take that into account for the rest of the fight. But she was a guard class; born, built, and trained to use her powers/gifts to continue fighting even while injuried.
