Chapter 9: Next Up! Round 2!
After successfully winning the first round, Naomi and Shira went back to their waiting room. Shira collapsed on the couch. "I messed up my ankle." During the fight, Shira had noticed something was wrong with her right ankle. When she knocked the three members of the other team down to help Naomi not get attacked, Shira side stepped to fast while dashing and twisted her ankle. It didn't help that she used that same leg to kick the one earth elementist twice.
"Naomi!!!!!" A young girl of about thirteen pushed her way into the room, pouncing on Naomi. "Where are you bleeding? Let me see." She tried to spin Naomi around to get to the wound on her back.
"Easy Sayuri." Naomi petted the girl's blue hair. "I'm fine." She gave a reassuring smile to her younger cousin and best friend.
Sayuri pouted, "I came all this way to heal you." She declared and stomped her foot. Shira giggled, at Sayuri's unchararterist attitude. Sayuri was one year younger then Naomi and had just started her first year of the middle grades. The two cousins were closer then best friends or silbings. Having started the academy at the same time, the two rarely saw each other since Naomi skipped two grades. "Does this hurt?" Ingoring her cousin, Sayuri began to examine Naomi. As a healer class, Sayuri didn't like fighting. She knew enough to survive if alone.
Healers were required to go through the same general field training as every one else. However, once in the middle grades, they began to learn how to do their role when in a five man team. Sayuri would learn how to heal during the heat of battle, how to avoid taking to much damage, and how to get away if necessary. Healers were the center of the five man team strategy. As long as the healer was okay, the team could contiune no matter what. Fail to protect the healer, and things would only get more diffcult.
"Look." Shira pointed to the tv screen that showed Mellie and Izumi. "Their about to start."
Naomi went to lay on the other couch so Sayuri could work on her back. "Think she'll use air elemental at all?"
Shira shrugged, "Its a fifty-fifty with her. Her chances of winning go up slightly if she does, since it's her strongest element. But Izumi also has to think about how air can strengthen fire."
Their attention was focused completely on the screen now. The announcer stood inbetween the two students. "Now for the second round." The announcer winked, getting the crowd pumped up. "For this part, the arena's gonna change. " A snap of her fingers, caused the arena to shake and rumble. Shocked, Izumi and Mellie jumped. Within seconds, the wide open and empty arena was replaced with a wide open field. Mountain ranges encircled the field, trapping the fighters. "This might not look like much, but trust me. There are several 'suprises'." The announcer turned to look at the surpised girls. "Becareful were you step, m'kay? Good now, lets begin the second round." With that one warning, the announcer turned and ran for her booth, but not before giving the signal for the fight to being.
"I'll be nice seeing as ho-" Mellie's arrogant voice was cut off by a kunai. Wide eyed at the sudden and bold attack, Mellie ducked to the side. There, she was met with a boot to the face. Enraged at the boldness of this first year, Mellie quickly recovered to grab Izumi's leg. In one swift montion, she chucked Izumi across the field and into a rock wall.
SMASH!!!
Izumi's body collided into the soild rock, going limp her body slide to the ground. Blood trickled down her forehead, the young elementist was out cold. That didn't stop Mellie. She quickly closed the distance, going after her downed oppenent. Smirking, she shook her head and gave Izumi a pitied look. "Look at where your arrogant deifence has gotten you." She grabbed the collar of Izumi's shirt, holding the passed out girl up like a rag doll. "Now everyone will see the gap in power between the years."
"They need to stop the match!" Sayuri yelped, "How come no one's doing anything!? She'll kill Izumi at this rate!" Sayuri turned away from the screen of Mellie thrashing an unconiuous Izumi. While her cousin and friend simply watched as the beating Mellie rained down on poor Izumi.
Sayuri started to get up, when Naomi grabbed her hand. "Don't forget, Izumi's an earth elementisit." These, seemingly hallow words, gave no comfort to Sayuri. The poor healer wanted to go to Izumi. She knew very well the dangers guradians could face and the injuries they would get rewarded with. Deep in her heart, Sayuri also knew Izumi could take worst and that the girl was lucky this was just an academy match. But still, she just couldn't sit there and do nothing. If Izumi's friends were only going to watch, the least she could do was try to stop the match.
"There we go!" Shira's rowdy cheer snapped Sayuri's attention back to the screen. Mellie was coughing up blood and clutching her side. The look on her face side someone would pay. Not to far away laid Izumi, in the arms of a seven foot earth golem.
"The kunai Izumi threw was one of her special ones." Shira's bright smile confused Sayuri, until the other girl explained. "It was one of five kunai Izumi carries, they aborsb the earth elemental enery Izumi gives off. These kunai are the only way Izumi can currently use any earth elemental. The one she threw earlier was just to distract Mellie. Izumi's not completely foolish. She has some kind of strategy...I think." The last part may have been said unsure, but it was still full of confident for her friend.
"Now the real fight begins." Naomi's voice was distant, as she watched the screen with the others. Now that both girls were injuried, they both knew the other wasn't holding anything back. Both had started out with full strength. Would this be a match of strength or elemental power?
it was now Izumi and Mellie's turn.
