Chapter 10: Might Vs. Magic
"What a surprise!" The announcer's voice boomed over the speakers. "Uncouinous and injuried, yet she still found away to defend herself! How will Mellie react next?"
Mellie took a deep breath, she needed to calm down. Getting emotional is what had gotten her injured just now. She had to admit, Izumi caught her off guard. Maybe she did underestimate this first year.
The golem shifted Izumi, so that the girl was shielded more by it's arm. Mellie held her side, at least three of her ribs were broken. The golem had rammed into her. She wasn't the target, Izumi was. She had only been an obstcal, standing between it and Izumi. Now that it had Izumi, the golem stood unmoving.
"Oww." Izumi groaned, as she rubbed her head. Looking at her hand, her eyes widened at the amount of blood that coated her hand crimson.
"Finally awake, princess?" Mellie tried to sound confident, but instead whimpered in pain. She really didn't want to let on how badly injuried she was. But at the moment who cared? Izumi was obviously in pain too, clearly wincing as she slide off her golem.
Izumi wobbled to the side, then wobbled back the other way. Clutching her head, she leaned against her golem for support. "Cut the act will you?" She tried to glare Mellie, but there were just to many dancing in her line of vision to glare at them all. "You thashed me, my golem bashed you. We're both black, red, and blue." Izumi chuckled at her 'poem'. "Let's just continue this fight, no holding back and no trash talking. We'll decide this with our power and skills."
Mellie coughed more blood, but nodded. "Agreed. Lets see who will win. My physical skills or your elemental ones."
Izumi gave a dazed grin, before throwing two more of her kunai. When Mellie came at her, Izumi side stepped behind her golem. Mellie's fist smashed into the golem, creating a smaller crater. Shoot. Izumi thought to herself. She's that strong without a weapon! Now what am I going to do if she gets her hammer out. Izumi saw that her second set of kunai were slowly forming into more golems. With a slight flick of her wrist, she stopped them from forming any more.
Mellie ignored the golem, as she tried to get to Izumi. Izumi danced around her golem, playing a weird game of keep away. Izumi wanted to strike back, but this wasn't the right moment. She needed to catch Mellie off gurad. Not an easy task after the golem had slammed into Mellie earlier.
"Stop moving!" Mellie was getting frustated, Izumi just kept moving around the golem to avoid her. Sighing, Mellie stopped her next attack. If Izumi wanted to play, then the little first year could play with some fire. Mellie was a soldier class, but perferred hand to hand combat. But sometimes, a girl couldn't play nice and had to bring out the 'big guns'. Smirking, Mellie reached for the handle of her war hammer. "How fast can you dodge a torrent of flames?"
Curious over this statement, Izumi looked over from behind her golem. Her gaze was meet with a pillar of flames rising to the top of the arena's roof, before crashing down. Izumi only had seconds to react. Pulling out her own weapon, Izumi ordered her golem away so that she had enough room. Aiming her arrow, Izumi infused some of her wind element into the arrow before releasing her hold on the string of the bow. Izumi then summoned a torrent of air, she whipped it around her to create a mini dome of pressured air.
Mellie slammed her hammer to the ground, drawing the pillar of flames down onto Izumi. "Nice try." Izumi's voice could be heard from within the flames that tried to engulf her. The arrow with air element had created a small opening with in the the flames. It was in the center Izumi had created her air dome to better protect herself from the remaining flames. Waving her arms, Izumi used her air to push back some of the flames and create an entrance. "Bye." Izumi smiled, her arrow flew out to strike Mellie in the shoulder.
"I really hate using air and you go and make me use it." Izumi huffed in annoyance, upset not over almost becoming BBQ, but being forced into using her hated element. "So, I'm going to finish this with arrows and earth elements."
"Your really are to cocky for your own good." Mellie felt the ground beneath her rumble and shake. "Shoot." To late, she realized what it was. Two more earth golems sprung up from the ground. Summoning more flames, Mellie used her uninjured arm to smash her hammer into the golems. Her attention on them, she forgot about Izumi for the moment. Another arrow came at her, Mellie stepped to the side at the last moment. Between the golems and arrows, she was pinned to her spot. Her only defense what her quick ability to summon flames from anywhere on her body. Not an easy task when one was trying to attack becoming a pancake.
"Up here!" Izumi called, getting Mellie to look up. A trick Izumi liked to use, she came up beside the soldier class to fire off two energy arrows into Mellie's side. As these arrows were simply made of earth element, it was similar to getting punched in the gut. Lucky for Mellie, this was Izumi's first attempt at creating earth energy arrows. The attack didn't do much damage, however, Mellie was thrown to the side by the force of it. Mellie recovered quickly, but her broken ribs were beginning to actually bother her now.
Grunting, Mellie threw herself the second year, using all of her weight to bring her hammer down. Izumi countered with her bow, using l it as a makeshift shield, it protected her from Mellie's hammer. The force from the hammer, however, was enough to make the bow begin to crack and the ground beneath Izumi to collapse. Mellie pulled back for another strike, this time aimed at Izumi's side. Izumi couldn't block this one and was sent flying once again. She flicked her wrist and one of the golems jumped up to catch their creator.
Izumi gripped her side, feeling bruises beginning to form. She had to admit, Mellie was strong. The second year didn't like to dodge and took more damage then she had too. But Izumi could be the same way at times. She knew it would only get worst now that she could use earth element in her arrows. Izumi had fought soldier classes before, but never one with such raw strength. If she didn't know any better, she'd say Mellie was a warrior class.
Grunting, Izumi peeled herself off of her golem, she needed to end this now. Time to be reckless. Smiling, Izumi grabbed her remaining kunai off her belt. She drew out any earth elemental energy they had absorbed from her. Izumi then grabbed a bow and poured the last bit of earth elemental energy she had into the arrow. She took aim, as Mellie finished off the two golems that had been distracting her. Mellie wasted no time in coming for Izumi. Izumi continued to smile, this would be it. All or nothing. Izumi didn't thinking, she just aimed. Waiting for the perfect moment. She let her arrow fly as Mellie threw the heavy war hammer engulfed in flames at Izumi.
A hush fell over the audience. Which attack had landed first? Who was still standing?
"Ladies and Gents!" The announcer's voice drew everyone attention to the giant monitors around the arena. "What an amazing, if not long, battle. The winner is...."
