Time. Something that was wasting away while Derrick and Jennifer stared at one another. It was a battle between pride and honesty. Jennifer didn't really have anything to say. She knew she had to talk to him, she had been avoiding him for longer than really necessary.
There she stood in his apartment living room, hair in a messy bun and sweats. And all that was running through Derricks mind was how beautiful she was. Her wavy burgundy hair out of place in perfection. Her honey brown eyes looking off into space avoiding hm. She stood at 5'4 with a big personality to make up for it. Even when she was shutting him out, she was letting on more than she knew.
"Are you gonna say anything?" He probed.
"I like you." She looked down at the floor.
Derrick looked at her, tilting his head in confusion. "I'm sorry what?"
"I like you and that makes me uncomfortable."
"That's a new one." Derrick laughed to hide his annoyance.
"I'm being serious. I don't know how to handle this right now."
"It's just a crush I don't really understand where you're coming from."
"Well I've only ever been with women. And coming out wasn't exactly easy for me. So maybe for you this is regular, but for me it's frustrating." She rubbed her temples.
"Okay, so you're scared because of what others might think?" his voice was sincere.
"Yes."
"Okay." He held is hand out for her.
"Okay what?" she took it after hesitating.
"We can do or not do whatever it is at your pace." He pulled her into hug from behind, he kissed the top of her head.
"Really?" she turned to face him.
"Yes. I'm your friend before anything."
"Okay, one condition?" Her eyes were hopeful
Derrick raised his eyebrow out of curiosity.
"Just don't tell anyone."
Derrick froze. "What?"
"I want to be able to figure all this, whatever this is out, without the input of everyone. So please don't tell anybody." She put her hands on his arms wrapped around her, and looked up at him, with scared eyes.
"Um, yeah okay. So who can I talk to about this?" He walked them over to the couch and sat down.
"Me, of course"
"Let's be realistic."
"Well who's your best friend?"
"Aaryn."
'Well you can't tell her" she laughed in awe
"I'll figure it out." He kissed the top of her head.
Jennifer turned around so they were face to face.
"You are so good to me, and I am so not." She smiled bright at him.
"You have a great smile." He traced her lips with his thumb
"I want you to kiss me, but I'm scared." She looked down
"Don't be." Derrick cupped her face and kissed her.
At first she closed her eyes tight, then she began to try and fight the kiss moving her face away laughing. "I'm sorry this is just weird, can we try again?"
Jennifer led this time, and leaned in for the kiss. Their lips met and this time Jennifer was more relaxed. She was able to fall into his chest, and wrap her arms around him. His lips were softer than she thought, and but it made her feel fuzzy on the inside, and fuzzy felt right. They broke away and she pushed herself up from his chest. "That's something I'm going to have to get used to." She rubbed her hands across his chest.
"You don't have boobs." She busted out into laughter.
"No, I don't" he laughed with her.
