Daehyun woke up with a groan, realizing he had to get ready for work, which meant that he wouldn't be able to read Youngjae's story until his lunch break. Then again, he remembered that the forecast called for rain, so maybe less people would come to the amusement park today. One might not think it, but working as a characacher artist could be quite stressful when people complained about your work while you could also hear kids whinning about what attractions they wanted to go to next while hearing screams from nearby rides.
Pushing those thoughts aside, Daehyun got up and showered quickly before packing himself a lunch while eating breakfast. That all done, he grabbed Youngjae's book and his umbrella before leaving. Thankfully, it isn't a long drive to work so he arrived in no time at all to check in with his boss. Once the park opened, he was forced to watch people walk by. Business was slow, and painfully so, After thinknig about it for a moment, he pulled out the book in the hope of at least starting the next chatper.
Of course, he has no luck in doing so since just as he opened to the right page, someone paid and sat down, forcing him to focus on his work. This customer was at least an easy one to work with...the following wasn't since it was a little kid that refused to stay still no matter what the mother tried. More people came and went, and Daehyun was actually quite exhausted by the time lunch break rolled around. He put up the little "On break!" sign before settling into his seat and taking out his bag, instantly opening the book again.
Chapter Two:
I spent a lot of time visiting Daehyun, I couldn't help it. I wanted more from him, and sometimes I felt I was so close to getting it. There were nights he would be quite confident with himself, while other nights he was so nervous that it was actually quite adorable. On those nights, I often hinted at my feelings towards him, because I wanted him to make a move. To this day, I'm not sure if he understood half of my hints.
At this, Daehyun had to chuckle. How stupid did Youngjae think he was? The other had literally been so flat out with him that he wasn't sure why Youngjae hadn't just asked him out instead. Apparently, Youngjae hadn't caught on to Daehyun's feelings.
I probably could have just asked him out myself, but that seemed too easy, and I wasn't completely sure how well it would go...actually, there was a night I wanted to give up on my other half. Obviously, we all know that didn't happen otherwise there would be no story. It was actually on the night that I was most tempted not to go that Daehyun finally got up his courage. He sat down with me during his break and chatted, even though he seemed incredibly nervous.
Daehyun had been beyond nervous actually. He smiled as he read the event from Youngjae's point of view.
It was just before he had to get back to work that he took a deep breath, "You know, Youngjae, pretty much all the times that we are together, it's here. How about I take you somewhere else one night?"
"Daehyun, are you asking me out?" I questioned, even though I knew full well that he was.
"Yes, yes, I am. And I can guarentee that our date will go much better than the one you had with that asshole you brought here the night we met," he told me bluntly. I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face as I held my hand out for his phone to put my number into it, and the smile he returned was absolutely breath-taking. His smile was one of my favorite things about him because his smile is actually perfect.
"It better be a better date," I told him as I returned his phone before handing him mine so that he could put his number in. All he did was chuckle and return my phone.
"I'll text you as soon as I get off of work, alright?" he asked while getting up, taking our empty plates.
"Alright," I grinned before he set back to work and I headed home. I was actually quite giddy with the thought of our date and my excitement only grew when my phone buzzed with a message later on in the night.
'Hey Jae, this is Daehyun^^ Does tomorrow work for you?'
'I have your number, I know it's you :P ...who said you could call me Jae? Yes, that works for me.'
'I thought it was a cute nickname. Don't you like it? Ok, what's your address so I can pick you up?'
'It''s fine,' I sent along with my address. I waited for a reply, but nothing came so I sent, 'When and where are we going?'
This time his reply didn't take long. 'Does six o'clock work? As for where we're going...I'd like to surprise you.'
I wasn't sure how I felt about him surprising me...but it was also kind of thrilling so after debating it for a few minutes, I replied, 'Six is fine. I look forward to this.'
'Good, now get lots of rest and I will talk to you tomorrow ^3^'
'You do the same, you worked hard today,' I sent before getting ready for bed. As I laid down, I couldn't help but imagine what tomorrow would bring.
Time passed quickly and six o'clock came quickly. "Where are my flowers?" I teased when Daehyun came to my door.
"Those can come on a different date," he gave me a small smirk before leading me to his car. It wasn't the nicest thing, but it was quite cozy so I felt safe and warm inside it. Daehyun turned the key only to have the engine churn but not start. "Come on," he urged while trying again, only to have nothing change. After a few more attempts he let out a sigh. "Well, this is going great...do you mind walking? The place isn't very far from here."
I told him it was fine so we headed in the direction of the place we were going, which happened to be a small little cafe with an open mic night. It was actually a sweet little place, the only problem was that it was completely full, meaning we couldn't get a table. "Darn it," Daehyun grumbled, "I was hoping we could eat here tonight and maybe I would get to hear you sing."
"Why?"
"I myself like singing, and it's always nice to meet someone with the same passion. I had hoped you would sing the night we met, but that jacka-"
"I guess I'll sing for you some other time, for now I'd like to find a place to eat," I mused.
"Me too," he agreed so we walked to a nearby McDonald's. Classy, right? Regardless, it was pretty fun, especially when he burnt his mouth on hot chocolate.
That had been embarassing, Daehyun recalls how he wound up spitting the drink back in his cup before running to get some ice from the machine. Not his most proud moment, but it made Youngjae laugh such a beautiful laugh that it didn't matter. Daehyun realized now how much he missed that laugh.
I learned more about Daehyun that night, and he learned more about me too, and that made me want even more from him one day, but I would take it step-by-step. The walk home was more of a run since when we finished eating, it started to downpour heavily. At last it was a warm rain and my house wasn't far away. "You want to borrow some dry cloths?" I offered.
"Nah, go in and dry off so you don't get sick. I hope you had fun tonight despite some of our, um, mishaps," he blushed, and let me tell you, he blushes adorably.
"You didn't disappoint," I mused. "Have a good night, Dae."
"You too, Jae," he smiled before leaving since his car actually decided to start that time. I definitely looked forward to what was in store for us then.
The chapter ended then and Daehyun was about to continue on with the next when his boss yelled, "Daehyun! Lunch break is over, get back to work!"
"Yes sir," he replied while setting the book back in his bag beffore grabbing his lunch to put away only to have his stomach growl at the sight. He hadn't even had a single bite! His stomach growled again just as a customer asked for-or rather demanded-his attention. He'd have to eat and read more later.
