Daehyun woke up, half in a daze as he slowly remembered what he learned yesterday. He forgot Youngjae, he broke Youngjae’s heart. How many times had he done so? He’d have to ask Youngjae when he went to see him later today. At that thought, Daehyun looked over to find his best friend still fast asleep with a small amount of drool slipping out of his mouth. The sight made Daehyun chuckle softly before he realized that he was going to have to wait to leave now.

With that in mind, Daehyun decided he might as well read more of Fiction so he could better understand his mess of a life.

Chapter 9: First Makeup

 I am in love.

I am stubborn.

...but there were a few times I almost gave up. There were times when things people said, telling me to give up, affected me more than they should have. Still, whenever I thought about all our good times together, I knew giving up was not an option. Daehyun is the love of my life and that is why I have done what I can to make sure he knows I'm here for him, that I'm always going to be waiting for him.

Daehyun stopped reading for a moment to think. Yongguk had told him that Youngjae was dating Junhong now, so was Youngjae giving up? No, no, that couldn’t be right. Youngjae wouldn’t leave this book for him if he was giving up, but Youngjae wouldn’t use Junhong to pass the time. From what Daehyun remembers, Youngjae isn’t that kind of person.

After the first time Daehyun forgot about me, the night he accused me of trying to rape him, I allowed him some time to be alone. To forget that day. All that time was hell for me, but then a miracle happened. I had to run to the store to get a few things to make a recipe I wanted to try as a distraction from missing Daehyun. As I rushed around the store, checking my list in the process, I suddenly collided into something, or rather someone, and fell onto my butt in what must have been a hilarious sight onto any onlookers.

I immediately started to apologize as a hand appeared in front of me, offering to help me back onto my feet. “Don’t worry about it, I wasn’t paying attention either,” a familiar voice said and before I even looked, I knew Daehyun was smiling at me. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah,” I told him slowly, licking my lips nervously. I wanted to hug him and tell him how badly I’d missed him, but I couldn’t. I had to treat this as though he was someone I was meeting for the first time because clearly he didn’t remember me. “Just really embarrassed,” I said as he helped me up.

“It could happen to anyone,” he shrugged. “I’m glad you’re not hurt, I would have felt really bad for causing someone like you pain.”

My heart clenched tightly at the words, but I tried not to show it, which didn’t work since a worried expression crossed his face. “Don’t worry, it’s just my butt is a bit sore.”

Suddenly Daehyun burst out laughing. “Sorry, I shouldn’t laugh but most people wouldn’t be so...blunt about it. I like that about you.”

“I know,” I said without thinking about it, but Daehyun didn't seem to find that statement weird.

“I should be going, but I’d...I’d like to get to know you more,” he grinned before writing down his number. “Call me sometime?”

“Sure,” I promised before he walked away.

From that point on, I had dates with Daehyun and he would actually remember a few things every now and then. I thought that maybe, just maybe he’d remember...but that was foolish. Six months rolled around and I was once again a stranger to the man I love. I gave him sometime again before I wrote him an email, saying I was an old friend that wanted to meet up. Daehyun was skeptical of me of course, but after various emails back and forth he agreed to meet me.

The time after that I asked Yongguk to introduce as when he and Daehyun went on a night out.

Still, no matter what I did, Daehyun would forget.

Still, I am in love. I am stubborn. Maybe this time will be different.

Daehyun stared blankly at the page once he finished. He remembers running into Youngjae in the store, he remembers getting mysterious emails, he remember Yongguk introducing them, and he remembers Youngjae writing in a notebook almost every night. Was it possible he was writing Fiction to prepare for being forgotten?

Slowly, he closed the book and went to take a shower where all he could do was ponder everything over until his head started to pound and tears blurred his vision. He calmed down before getting out of the shower to make himself and Yongguk some breakfast.

“I smell food,” Yongguk yawned as he shuffled into the kitchen.

“Yeah, eat up...and eat fast, I want to see Youngjae as soon as possible. I just got done with another chapter,” Daehyun stated before he explained what he read to Yongguk, who was already aware of such things. Still, Daehyun felt better talking about it and Yongguk was nice enough to listen.

When the food was gone, the duo got ready to go. “Are you ready?” Yongguk asked as he took ahold of his keys.

“As ready as I can be,” Daehyun took a deep breath as he clutched Youngjae’s story. No, it wasn’t Youngjae’s story, it was their story...but it was only part of it. Daehyun was going to find the rest out slowly, all he had to do was see Youngjae.
