layla's POV

Alison DiLaurentis and I had a friendship that was stronger than the rest of the others. We always shared secrets. Although she never shared details of what happened.

The night she went missing, I heard her get out of the Hastings' barn. So being the wonderful friend I am, I followed her to woods behind her house. Up until then I was completely quiet. But I stepped on a small twig that I couldn't see.

Surprisingly she didn't turn around, but she did say,"Who's there?" And then the same thing again but louder.

I decided to say,"Ali it's me, layla." She turned around, shocked it was me who was following her.

The only words she said were,"Why did you follow me?"

"I heard you leave the barn and then I got worried," I said quietly. There was a small but subtle rustle in the distant woods.

"I've got to go!"

"Ali wait!" I yelled but it was too late. She was already long gone. I heard some footsteps behind me getting louder and louder. Then two hands appeared on my waist. And a soft but manly voice whispered,"Come over to my house," in my ear. I turned around to be surprised by Jason, Ali's older brother. My first thought was 'Run. As far as you can'. But I also thought 'Isn't this what you wanted again?' According to Ali, Jason was always 'off limits'. But we didn't care. "jayla" was and had to be a secret relationship. Every so often when Alison went out, I would go over. We watched movies, ate pizza and drank soda, and laughed at the funny things each other said. But one day a blocked number that addressed themselves as 'A' sent a text that said 'Better break up with the bitch's brother before this picture gets sent to her. Kisses-A' Then attached was a picture was of us kissing. So because of that I told Jason the classic break-up line, "It's not you, it's me." I could tell that he was way more heartbroken than me.
