I can't sleep, I keep thinking about those eyes... they looked so familiar. I pad downstairs, mum
is there sitting at the table. "Can't sleep?"
"Yeah..." I pour myself a glass of milk. "Me neither. What kept you up?" I sit down next to her, "I
don't know." I decide against telling her about the fox thing, I don't want my mother thinking I am
going crazy. "What's been keeping you up?" I return her question, "work... and I have to work
more shifts at the hospital. I have to work at night now." She has large, dark circles under her
eyes. "Did they tell you this today?" I worry, "Yesterday." She rubs her eyes. "I'm going to bed
now, you better, too." She starts to get up. I sigh, rubbing my eyes I say, "Mum. I'll miss you."
"Me too, sweetheart." She smiles, "Look after Ashton. Make sure he gets included." I force
myself to not blush, "I promise to include him." Mum walks to her room.
I stay for a while, then leave.
I think about Ashton while I lay in bed. He has an unearthly beauty about him. Was it strange to
have two good looking boys as friends? I remember having a feeling like a connection with
Ezekiel. How could this be? I hardly even knew them.
The next few days had been like repeating the same day over and over again, Zeke hanged out
with us, while giving Ash icy glares. Ashton pretended to not notice, a large flock of girls that still
followed him around. The cheerleaders tried every day to get Zeke and Ashton to sit with them.
I, of course was very annoyed when they gave plastic smiles and played pretend friends with
me, I guess they wanted to make a good impression. Krissy and Ari gossiped, and talked about
prom.
"Prom!" I suddenly remember I don't have a date or a outfit. I fumble with my phone, "hey.
Krissy. Do you have a date for prom?"
"Not yet." I sigh, at least I'm not the only one without a date. "I'm working on getting Pierce to
come with me. You don't have a date!" She puts two and two together and nearly bursts my
eardrum, "No. We could just go as friends together. If you can't get Pierce to come with. Right?"
I knew she had a crush on him for basically from the beginning of grade nine, she still liked him
even though he showed not a smidge of interest. "Sure. Got to go, I spot him." She hangs up,
"well at least I have a plan." I begin to walk to school. "Hey, how are you going?" I look behind
me, "hey Ash. I'm alright."
He clears his throat, "so...prom's coming up. Right?" I stare straight ahead, "yeah."
I spot Krissy, running over to her I say "hey, so did you get Pierce to come?"
She gives me a victorious smile, "yep. So, do you don't have a date?" I look around nervously,
Ash has walked into the school building, "you already asked me, no." My bestie gives me a
bigger grin, "do not fear, Kristan is here. We will find you a date. I'm surprised you don't have a
date, considering you have two gorgeous boys to choose from." I glare at her, "Speak of the
devil, hey Zeke we were just talking about you." This couldn't get much worse, "hi, so, prom's
two weeks away." He says like he's discussing food. "Do you both have a date?" I bet my face is
as red as a tomato, "we" I start, only to be interrupted by Kristan, "I do... but Clary doesn't." Her
mouth twitches like she's trying very hard not to smile, "do you want to go with me?" My mouth hits the floor. "Uh. . .um. . .Sure." What has Krissy gotten me into??!
