Chapter 12: Aftermath

'Now come one come all to this tragic affair
Wipe off that makeup, what's in is despair

The music echoes out through the Immanuel Presbyterian church,the very same church in which My Chemical Romance shot the film clip for Helena, it's what Cadence would have wanted. At the front of the church sits a black coffin, surrounded by red and white roses. Mr Sales, Dom, Jake, Elaine, Charlotte, Brooke and Corey sit together in the first pew. Elaine clutches Charlottes hand crying into her shoulder, Jake resting a caring hand on her back, unaware of how to react. Tears cascade down Dom's face, putting in no effort to hide them. As the music comes to and end, Charlotte stands at the podium and presents her speech.
"You were beautiful," she begins. "I miss you. We miss you. I speak on behalf of Elaine, Dom, Brooke and the rest of her friends. Life isn't the same. You were often quiet, but we miss your company, we miss your smile. But most of all we miss our friend. Life will be so different without you and I'd give anything to have you here with us now. We love you Cadence."
People clap and cry as Mr Sales takes Charlottes place.
"Never have I had a brighter more enthusiastic student. She was well behaved and well liked among the staff. I will never understand those who had the guts to put her down. She was a terrific student who always made me want to teach after a horrible day and I'll miss her absence in class and in our lives. Thank you."
Mr Sales stepped down and took his seat.

"I'm sorry," Corey whimpers, fighting back tears. "I should have been a better friend. I should have stuck by you until the end. You are the most amazing girl I have ever met and it's scary to think of the future without you. I love you Cadence."

With the final speech done, the crowd watches as the preist steps forward. "Now I'd like to present this video in the memory of Cadence Lee Kennedy. We lost a beautiful girl to suicide. May God forbid we lose anymore." A few cries and sniffles are heard as they view a slideshow of photographs of Cadence and her friends and her art as The World is Ugly plays out.

With it coming to a close Charlotte, Elaine and Dom walk up to the coffin hand in hand. Elaine takes her key and places it in Cadence's lifeless hand. "I think it's safer with you," she whispers, walking back to her seat as the people watch on. "This world didn't deserve you," Charlotte says, releasing Dom's hand to pull a strand of hair from Cadence's face, before too taking her seat back with Elaine and Brooke.
Dom sighed, fighting back the tears, his body shaking. "I wish I told you how I felt before," Dom whispered, kissing her pale, powdered cheek. "I'm telling you now. I loved you Cadence, even wen we were kids. I love you still. Sweet dreams beautiful," he said.
