Nightfall...

Ken was now laying on the bed beside me, mumbling out words during his sleep. Mark then came in with a hoodie and tossed it over to me.

"Get warm, it's going to be cold tonight." He said before pulling the door close again. Ken was under the thick sheets while I was here, freezing as the night was accompanied by the rain.

Los Angeles was one of the few states that got bombed by the government in order to "contain" the disease but instead, it destroyed almost everything. Then, came the cold frost biting temperatures, their second way to hold off the virus by slowing down zeke metabolism and end up killing them. Evolution came and all these attempts in trying to fend off the plague had gone to shit. New zekes were made because of it and that's where they came up with the idea of a cure.

Last minute idea...

I got up and walked towards the door, opening it and stumbling upon a beautiful Mark. His eyes widened at me, causing me to faint a tiny grin.

"What's with the eyes Mark?"

"Nah, you just look cute an night." He added, forcing a kiss onto my lips. "I just wanna-"

I held him back, "M-Merk, not now."

He then teased me with the small nibbles on my neck. I groaned at the feeling but it was just not the right time. He held both my hands and pulled me into an embrace, one that I couldn't let go.

"Sean, I love you more than anything." He paused and swerved his hand over my arm, "God you're freezing? I thought I gave you the hoodie. Oh wait you are wearing it."

It was obvious that I was already wearing the hoodie but the cloth was too thin, not much of a warming medium. Mark laid his head onto my shoulder, wincing like a baby.

"Let me keep you warm," he said, wrapping one arm around me and bringing me to the table, "there's something me and Marzia found out."

Wiishu was still blacked out, restless against the chair. She was breathing so I knew she wasn't dead. What a good way to introduce ourselves, with guns pointing at each other.

Marzia pulled out a big roll of paper and spread it across the table surface, revealing me a huge chunk of science stuff.

"Hey, it's the same blueprint we found during our last mission." She began, swiping her finger across the sheet.

I looked on the top of the blueprint, huge letters were bolded and formed the words "SeptiCure" and it had a number two out of five right beside it.

Suddenly, Wiishu woke up, her face was plastered with paleness and thirst. She breathed in for air, scurrying around the room with her eyes until she landed them onto us.

"Let me go you guys, please." She begged. Mark only looked at her and so did I. If we did do that, she might kill all of us now. We've made the most stupid decision to be here, and I had regretted everything about it.

"My works shift starts now, they'll start to find me if I don't arrive in time. You know this sector is a place with strict rules. If they catch you guys, you'll be killed!" Wiishu continued.

"How do we know we could trust you in not telling anyone?" I asked, sounding a bit annoyed at the fact she was probably lying.

She tilted her head and raised her brow on a pass near the television. It had her name on it.

"Signs Hansen- Gate Guard (8:00-9:30pm)"

"I swear to god, I won't tell anyone and..." Wiishu paused, "I'm sorry about the whole ruckus just now. I freak out sometimes and I hate to say it to you guys but protecting the sector is my main priority. I'll spare Ken's life for now but you guys are going to have to follow everything I say from now on, that included you too Marzia."

At first, maybe she was telling the truth. Mark locked his eyes onto the pass and pulled out a knife, cutting of the tape around Wiishu, setting her free from the chair. Wiishu shook her head and sighed, picking up the pass and leaving through the front door.

"Make sure you don't go into my room." She reminded, "And take care of that blueprint, I only have a copy of that, maybe you guys can think about finding a way for that cure thing."

I watched as she closed the door and left, Mark walked towards me and started talking about the situation.

"Marzia, do you trust this Signe of yours." He said, pulling off his glasses and rubbing his eyes. "I think she knew that me and Sean are Septics, what if-"

"She won't," Marzia cut Mark's sentence off, "I know her. What she's telling, is true. We won't stay here for long anyways, we'll have to start thinking about another plan before something worst happens."

An idea sparked in my head, the most foggiest but relatable idea was right there but I didn't feel like telling it. Though I do know it might help other people, risking my life for it wasn't worth the try.

"Looks like you're thinking about something Sean?" Marzia started, her lips in an O shape.

"I figured, we should help the people here first and build up our reputation before we actually start doing shit. I know, it's stupid but, I think it's something we can take a shot on and hopefully they'll accept us." I said as Mark flinched a little.

"Jack, we're Septic, they might..."

Mark motioned a finger across his neck, a dark scene appeared like he was a mime.

"Kill...us."

I rolled my eyes, "We've just been here for like three hours, they don't even know about us yet."

"Jack I'm serious, the best way to do this is figure out how we're actually going to start hunting." Mark averted, his grin turned into a straight mouth.

"That's why we have to build up our traits around here first, we can't just trespass into the animal reserve without permission. We're deliberately in the middle of a death field. You've seen what Wiishu did to Ken right? How about the people besides her?"

"The people here are killers already." Mark continued.

Marzia nodded her head, agreeing to Mark's words. We had to play smart or they'll turn over to us.

"We killed people too Mark, it makes no difference. You believe in me don't you?"

Mark sighed, unable to fight against my statement. He grabbed my hands and laid a kiss on my forehead. The splendid reaction I would get and as always, Marzia would always scoff in the background.

"I believe you."
