Driving towards the airbase had almost felt like hours. The sector we were once in grew distant with every mile we went, disappearing into the apocalyptic world behind us.
Mark was the driver for the day while Wiishu and Wade were in the other car in front of us. There were at least four cavaliers being the convoy for our assault and every single one was packed with beast weapons that we could use.
"Mark are we there yet? This is taking forever." I mumbled in annoyance, my butt was getting sore on the leather seats. Mark rolled his eyes once again, he obviously had enough of my complaints.
"Can you please Jack, I love you, but please...keep it down. It's getting you know, too over." Mark begged as he tried to focus his gaze on the dusty road.
I crossed my arms and heaved a sigh, checking my shotgun for smudges or anything out of the ordinary. I glanced at Mark and smiled, flopping myself over to his cheek, giving him a short peck.
He chuckled under his breath, looking back at me with his beautiful pair of eyes. The left one remained a hazel brown and the right a deadly Septic. I admired him as much as adored being with him.
"Stop being cute." Mark laughed out, nudging my shoulder with his hand.
The cars in the front made a hard turn into the junction, appearing at a longer highway that had the airbase sitting right next to it. Zekes crawled around the area, hordes going in on our trails but they never caught up, we were too fast. I watched as everyone came to a halt, appearing right in front of the main entrance that had a huge hangar door being our only way through.
Wade got of the car along with Wiishu and some of his men. He grabbed a silencer and began securing it onto the nozzle. A few zekes came in our direction as they were shot down quiet by Wade. The silencer did a pretty good job keeping it down, so worrying about zekes coming up behind us won't be a problem.
I could see Mark holding his left arm, fidgeting slightly against the cold wind that blew across everyone. He shuddered as he looked down, dangling the rifle in his hands as he breathed out.
"Mark ya alright there mate?" I asked, clamping my hand over his shoulder.
"Yeah I'm fine, it's just...I've been here, before I found you and...I lost one of my good friends." He sounded as I could see tears form over his cheeks.
He lost a friend? Here at the airbase?
"Who?" I paused, "Was it a he?"
"Yeah it was a he, his name was Daniel. Daniel Kyre. He saved us all from the Neroy attack, where hunters and marauders joined forces and started putting offense over our sector. He bombed the entire hangar right there." Mark explained as he pointed at one of the hangars, it's side had a huge hole in it.
"It's okay Mark, we couldn't change the past. What's lost is gone, we'll have to remember it in our hearts just like how the rest did for us." I replied as I held his hand and rugged it along towards the entrance.
He stopped in his tracks, muffling out a whimper of disagreement.
"No, we can't go in there, it's...it's too dangerous."
"What? Mark it's going to be fine, there's not even a single zeke around," I said, completely trying to make him nod, "we will be alright."
I tucked my shotgun over my chest, pumping the barrel with ammunition. Wade and Wiishu were already in and some of his men stayed guard outside.
Inside the hangar laid nothing but old scrap metal and tangled up vines that skewered itself into walls and the pavement beneath us. I couldn't see any planes either, the entire area was literally covered in greenery.
"Search the left side of the hangar, there should be a weapons cache somewhere." Wade ordered as his men started sprinting in the other direction.
"Mark and Jack, you guys check the front perimeters, find anything useful and if you're lucky, I bet there's another weapons cache lying around.
Make and I nodded as we both walked across the thick vine area, cutting our way through the hard entanglement.
As soon as we reached the end of the hangar I could see tables and chairs on top of one another blocking a door that had a sign, 'armory' on it.
"Hey Jack, looks like we hit the jack-pot, get it? Jack-pot." I tighten my eyes, cringing at the pun that he just made.
"Mark you're not only a terrible liar, you're also a terrible comedian." I said as he scoffed,
"At least I try Jackaboy."
"I know Markimoo..." I replied back.
Mark then raised his rifle, checking the side corridors of the small area, only to find a crowbar resting itself against the wall. The armory was blocked so we had to move every obstacle out of the way. Then a padlock came up after removing the last piece of table.
I aimed my shotgun as the shiny padlock that appeared over the knob, locking the door ahead of us. Before I was able to pull the trigger, Mark laid his hand on mines, asking me to hold up.
"The gunshot is super noisy, we should find a way through." Mark said, scanning the area for another entrance, "Hey how about that small crack beside the wall?"
I saw him put his eyes on the crack he was talking about. He picked up the crowbar and ledger it between the crack, kicking it with a hard force, allowing it to have a small opening through the armory.
"In you go Jack." Mark said as he offered me to go in first. My body wasn't as big as Mark's so...it was easy going in.
Mark then followed up behind me, squeezing his way through. Inside laid so many huge metallic cases that were arranged on top of each other.
"Gold cauldron!" Mark screamed in excitement.
"Really Mark? After not calling it pot of gold, you call it gold cauldron?" I spoke, attempting to assess the situation.
We grabbed everything we could, until I heard yelling. I heard Wade and Wiishu yelling from outside, shooting at unknown individuals. We were being ambushed,
Shit..
"Mark ready up your gun, it's gonna get messy."
