"So what're we doing next?" I asked Mark as he brought me out of the ring. Lilly decided to stay with Marzia for the time being and the rest went back to their normal routine.
"We're going to make you shoot real guns Sean." He replied. Real guns? I thought a shotgun was already a real gun.
"Doesn't a shotgun count?" I continued as Mark and I stopped in front of a shooting range. There was a long table that had so many types of weaponry on it. My jaw dropped, how did they get those things?
Mark looked back at me and held both of my shoulders as he smiled. His face was something that you can't take your eyes away.
"Sean...a shotgun, no matter where you point, will always hit your target. A handgun however, will need you to be a hundred percent accurate like this-"
Mark instantly picked up a handgun and shot three targets in one go without even looking at them. My eyes widen in amazement as he gave me the gun.
"Your turn Sean, if you can win a fist fight, you'll of course beat this one. Shoot all three targets within a time limit of three seconds." Mark ordered as he stood behind me.
"Won't the zekes hear the gunfire?" I asked as Mark chuckled.
"The area's clear, we'll clean it up again if more comes."
I then steadied my aim at the first target. The safety lock was off, the gun ready to fire. I only had three seconds to do it. I gave a thumbs up indicating I was ready.
Mark without further a due said 'Go'. I shot one then two then..
"Stop!" Mark commanded. I clicked down my weapon and turned over to him, my reaction was abruptly dull.
"The fuck? That was three seconds already?!"
Mark nodded his head and said, "Try again Sean."
I huffed my breath and resumed back to the targets. I reloaded my weapon with a new magazine from the table, one full with bullets.
I did another thumbs up, waiting for Mark to say 'Go' once again.
"One,two,three...go!"
I shot the first one, my focus pinned onto the last two. Second down and now for the last tar-
"Stop!"
"What the fuck Mark!" I shouted, walking over to him as he did to me. "That wasn't three seconds!"
Mark held out a timer, it showed me 3.03 seconds. I wasn't amused, that was practically human error.
"Round that off, you get three!"
Mark held my shirt and pulled it close to his body. The space between me and him was tight, his glasses clunked onto my nose as he spoke harshly,
"In this world Sean, we don't round off numbers. Even a millisecond could change everything. Now...go back there and try again one more time."
He let go of me as I walked back to the table. My mind drowned in his embrace, I felt his heart against mine that moment, I felt like an idiot. I exhaled slowly and started my aim before two warm hands reached my sides. Mark?
"Here, like this. Place your dominant foot at the front and the other at the back, this decreases the recoil you get." He said as I followed him, my face was starting to blush.
"Straighten your arms and lock it in while maintaining your posture."
"Like this?" I said, accidentally making the scene more awkward. Damn it Jack! Keep quiet.
"Yeah," he replied holding my hands up with his finger on the trigger. I could feel his chest on my back, his slow breathing was over my shoulders.
"You ready?"
I aimed my weapon before hearing Mark whisper into my ears, "Hold your breath."
My mind was now over all the three targets. Mark released his grip and stepped back. I breathed in and did what he said, my posture was straight, legs both in the right position, my hands were steady as they could be.
I breathed in and held my breath, the world felt as if I was in slow motion. I could hear Mark said 'Go' in a muffled voice as I pulled the trigger. First target down, second target down, I was now off to the last one. Both of my eyes centered at the head as I finished off the last shot.
*bang*
My heart was thrilled, I hit all of them. I turned around and bowed down to Mark. He smirked at me and came over.
"2.99 seconds Sean. Good job." Mark said as he pulled me in for a hug. I wrapped my hands around him, it was the most satisfying reward that I've ever had. I didn't want to let go, I wanted it to last even longer.
Eventually we both parted, releasing the tension between the both of us. Mark smiled as I handed him the gun.
"Keep it," he said as he gave it back to me. I held the gun and Mark ripped off one of his holsters and stuck it on my jeans, "saddle your gun in there, you'll need to carry it around without making your hands tired."
I grinned at Mark, thanking him for the gift. We then got out of the shooting range and into the streets of the compound. We walked towards the police station when suddenly, Ken and Felix stopped right in front of us, they were both panting. I had the feeling something wrong was going to happen.
"Mark! Sean! The hunters! They're on the way here to attack us!" Felix cried out. Without wasting a second, Mark and I ran to the gate and onto one of the pillars.
Mark grabbed a binocular and looked across the huge road. From here, I could see a cloud of dust on the long road getting bigger every second.
"Bring the women and children in the bunker. Felix, you get your team to defend the back grid, Ken take the left side." Mark ordered as they both nodded, "Tell Robert and Matthias to come up front."
Felix gave me a rifle and went down the pillar running to the back side of the compound. I noticed, these hunters were coming from every direction. Were they here for us? Or were they here to take revenge?
Mark slid down the ladder and took position, his men were ready too. I came down and went beside him. The gate was still closed and the skies started to pour down light rain above our heads. I could hear cars revving from beyond the gate and the abominable laughs by the hunters.
"Hold this line! We cannot let any of them through!" Mark shouted as everyone lifted their weapons.
The gate was the only obstruction before the battle started. A few bangs were sounded behind the gate before I heard beeping. There was a bomb ready to explode.
"Get down!" Robert squalled as the gate erupted into a pile of debris, a huge hole was created. One by one they came in and gunfire flared up everywhere.
Don't die Jack, don't die.
