"Brother."
"...Hnngh."
A disgruntled groan escaped my lips as my vision turned red throughout my eyelids, an indication I had woken up from a marvelous slumber, yet hadn't opened my eyes, so I continued to "sleep".
"Brother, get up."
"...Wodahs...?"
I groggily sat up, blinking the sleep out of my eyes to little avail.
"Wodahs...how long have I been asleep?"
"I don't know, but it doesn't seem my eye is getting any better."
Not a minute after I'd woken up, my brother was already guilt-tripping me about his eye. I guess I can't blame him for that, though. It is my fault he's wearing an eyepatch on the right side of his face.
Still, he could lay off of me a little bit, especially since today was...
"Gah!" my eyes shot open, and I leapt up. "It's my birthday!"
Wodahs began clapping.
"Magnificent. Congratulations, Kcalb, you remembered."
He was getting pretty annoying. I pushed him out of the way and started to climb down the ladder to get back to land, but he stopped me before I was halfway down.
"Hold on. I have something for you."
"Something for me? How generous," Wodahs rolled his eyes, then revealed a telescope from out of my sight.
"Here. I'm going to let you use it. Just for today, though, to show I'm the good brother."
"Delightf-" I was cut off when Wodahs dashed to the side of the tower, causing it to shake a bit with the sudden movement.
"...Over there. What's that?"
I took advantage of my brother's "gift", and peered through the telescope toward what Wodahs was staring at.
It took a moment, but I eventually spotted a demon with a cigarette hanging loosely from his mouth straighten his sunglasses and slide a letter into the island's red postbox. He fixed his red bag and turned around, presumably to leave. I sighed and removed the telescope from my face and returned my gaze upwards.
"That was just the postman."
"Psh. Whatever, Kcalb, he seemed different today. Go back home and put on your birthday clothes."
His ironic wording drove me down the ladder even faster.
Dodging questions from various kids around the island, I almost had to answer Siralos asking me where I was going in such a rush as I dashed home.
"Vicers!" I slammed open the door to the house, and my (and Wodahs's) caretaker fell over in surprise.
"K-kcalb! Welcome home! I assume you got my message from Wodahs?"
"Yep, hand the dumb clothes over, Vicers, I wanna get this over with."
"Whatever you say, Kcalb, I think they look charming."
I scoffed, snatched the outfit from Vicers's hands, and went upstairs. Ten minutes later, I emerged, grumbling, donned in green from head to toe.
I could already feel the sweat beads beginning to form. It was really too hot for this.
"Now that I think about it, Kcalb, not only are you the same age as the legendary hero, but you bear a striking resemblance to the descriptions of him. Horns and all."
