CHAPTER TWENTY ONE

*Alexis's POV*

Shit...

I held my breath as I heard the door burst open.

"Finally!" Asher exclaimed, as he walked inside. I could hear his loud footsteps as he neared me.

I felt his presence behind me, before I felt his hands on the back of my head.
He was undoing the blindfold...

"Leave..." He ordered the person who informed him that I was awake.
I felt the blindfold loosen, but he held it over my eyes until the man had left the room, and closed the door behind him.

Letting the blindfold fall onto my lap, he stepped out from behind me, as my eyes adjusted to the florescent light that was blinding me.

"Hello Alexis..." He greeted me, as a smirk slipped onto his face.
"Why am I here?" I asked, before hissing through clenched teeth when the movement hurt my bottom lip.

"You're here because its where I need you to be. Out of harms way." He replied, before pulling over the chair that I assumed the guard had previously been sitting on.

"Out of harms way? You call this out of harms way? You ordered your goons to crash into us! You are seriously mental!" I yelled, ignoring the pain that was my entire face, and the throbbing in my head.

"You weren't supposed to get hurt." He told me, as he placed the chair in front of me.
"I just needed to get you alone, to talk to you, without that Italian fucker interfering again. That's all he does, interfere and fuck everything up!" He spoke, his voice raised by the word.

"You weren't supposed to hurt me? Why the fuck am I tied up then?" I shouted, getting worked up. "You're a psychotic bastard!"

"You don't understand! I've kept you out of harms way for so long! Even before you moved here!"

I took note of the fact that I'm in the same town.

"What do you mean before I moved here?" I asked, cautiously.

"Let me start from the beginning okay?" he told me, although he said it more like a question.

"Well it's not like I can go anywhere." I replied, slouching in my chair.

*Domenico's POV*

"Please tell me he had already dropped Alexis off at home." I whispered to myself, as a sick feeling washed over me.

"The car was found in between Lain and Alexis's house." He replied, quietly.

"Where! Tell me where!" I ordered, as I grabbed my keys off my desk, before standing up sharply, resulting in my desk chair crashing into the wall behind me.

"The intersection leading to beginning of the first avenue." He told me, "I'm coming with you."

"Let's go then."

*Alexis's POV*

"So let me get this straight... You followed me from Edenburg to here, because I was in 'danger'?" I asked, before adding, "I would use finger quotes, but my hands are tied behind my back at the moment."

"Yes, that is correct." He informed me, leaning back in his chair as he folded his arms across his chest.

"Clarify, danger." I ordered.

"Domenico Devitto... He was stalking you; did it not occur to you that his behaviour was weird? I mean, he turned up here shortly after you, and started showing interest in you. He knew where you lived! How do you explain that?" He asked.

"How do you know that?" I replied, not buying his explanation.
"I already told you, I've been keeping you out of harms way." He told me, seemingly serious.

"You still don't believe me do you...?" He asked, although it was more like a statement.

"I don't know what to believe. What do you expect me to do? Jump into your arms for rescuing me? You have me tied up! Even if you are telling the truth, which I highly doubt, you are both as psychotic as each other!" I told him honestly.
"And that is before I consider the fact that I'm pretty sure I heard you shoot somebody in the hallway earlier."

"He put your life in danger because of his sloppiness, he didn't deserve to live."

"There you go again, being a fucking psycho."

"Alexis... Your precious Dom is the one responsible for the letters you have been receiving..."

*Domenico's POV*

"Do you know if Lorenzo is okay?" I asked Falco, as I drove out of my driveway, turning in the direction of the avenues.

"He's in critical condition, he's being taken to central hospital." He replied, as he plugged his seat belt in.
"Call Carlo..." I spoke to my car, after turning on the voice activation.

Calling Carlo...

The phone rang twice, before his voice drifted through the speakers.

"Dom? Why are you calling me? We're in the same house."

"Lorenzo's been in an accident, I believe that Alexis was in the car too, but she wasn't there when the police arrived. Falco and I are on our way to the scene. I need you and Mirco to get to Central Hospital to see if Lorenzo is okay. Apparently he's in critical condition. Keep us updated."

"Alright, we'll leave now."

He ended the call, as I continued driving.
"Do you think they've taken Alexis?" Falco asked quietly, as he fiddled with his hands.

I sighed before answering him,"Let me put it this way, I was supposed to get a call when she arrived at her house. I haven't received any calls..."

*Alexis's POV*

"No... It couldn't be him, there's no way..." I defended him, "He didn't even know about the letters."

"It's not like he would tell you Alexis, that would ruin his cover."

"He's part of a Mafia Alexis, you don't know what he's capable of. Look, to prove that I'm not the bad guy, I'll let you go, but you have to promise me that you'll stay away from him." He told me, as he untied my ankles, before walking behind me to undo the ropes that held my hands behind my back.

"I was telling the truth at the dinner tonight Alexis, I would never hurt you..."
