Chapter Twenty Eight...
*Alexis's POV*
"What do I even wear? Like do I do professional? Or do I go semi-professional? I mean it's a café, not some high class business job, but I want them to take me seriously." I told Holly the morning of my interview, "And whatever I wear, it has to go with my cast." I added as an afterthought.
"Well do they have a uniform?" She asked, as she ate her pancakes that she ordered from room service.
"Nope, they all just wear black pants and white shirts, I don't think they have a uniform, they just have to wear those colours.""Well wear a white blouse and some black jeans, maybe put a blazer over top so you still look stylish."
"You're a genius." I told her, as I got up and rummaged through my suitcase.
"I mean I wouldn't go as far as to say that about myself, but I won't deny it." She laughed.A few hours later, I sat in the car outside of the quickest café in town.
"What if I don't get the job? I'm not the greatest at making coffee, I mean I did that barista course ages ago but I can't even remember all of the types of coffee." I told holly, freaking out slightly.
"Yes you can, we went over them last night, you make amazing coffee." She told me, as she pushed her seat backwards so she had more room to stretch out her legs.
I laughed, "You haven't even had my coffee in months." I reminded her.
"That doesn't mean I can't remember what It tasted like. Now go inside or you'll be late.""Alright, wish me luck."
I climbed out of the car and walked into the small café.
"Alexis! You're here!" Nick greeted me, before looking at his watch, "Right on time too,"
"Yeah, I figured it'd be best to get here before the interview, rather than after." I joked, as I walked up to the counter.
He laughed, "I've been told to give you a free coffee on the house, so what'll it be?" He asked, gesturing to the sign that had all of the types of drinks on it.
"Uhh, could I maybe have a hot chocolate instead?" I asked cautiously. "I don't really need any more energy at the moment." I laughed, "I'm nervous enough as it is."
"That's fine, I'll make it now," He told me, as he walked behind the coffee machine. "So how'd you break your arm?" He asked casually, as he made my hot chocolate.
I stiffened, wondering what to say. "I uhh, I was in a car accident."
"Woah really, did it hurt?" he asked, curious.
"I have no idea I was unconscious. But it hurt afterwards." I told him, caressing the burgundy cast that covered my forearm and most of my hand."Here's your drink, you can go through to the boss now, he's in the office at the end of the hall, just go through the kitchen, the room's not hard to find." He told me, as a customer walked in.
"Thanks, Nick." I said, meaning it.
"You're welcome, and Alexis, you'll be great, he's a generous man."
With that I walked past him and down the hallway.
I hesitated at the door, taking a deep breath I knocked three times, before lowering my hand.
My stomach was in coils, I was so nervous. This wasn't my first job, but it had been so long since I had last had a job, I hadn't had one since before we moved.
I heard quiet footsteps, before the door opened.
I gasped at who was standing in front of me.
*Leonardo's POV*
Alright so you know what to do?" I spoke into the phone, "Yes," They replied quietly, "Nobody must know you're back until then, it's a matter of life or death." I told them.
"I know, I'll do whatever is necessary. I won't fail you." They spoke confidently.
"Good, we've missed you." With that I hung up."Who was that?" Dom asked, as he walked into my office.
I sat quietly for a moment, "It was Benito, he's decided to put our differences to the side and help us out, since Lorenzo has become involved." Technically I wasn't lying, Benito had decided that, but he told me in person. The person on the phone was much more important. I trusted Dom, he was my son, but for the plan to work, he couldn't know who it truly was. We'd gone to so much trouble to convince them all where they'd gone in the first place.
*Domenico's POV*
I didn't believe him, I didn't believe him one bit, id find out what he was hiding, but until then, I had other matters at hand. "We can't find Alexis and Holly. I think Lorenzo knows where they are, but he's not sharing that information." I told my father, as I sat in front of his desk.
"Do you not trust that he can take care of her?" he asked, before standing up and walking around his desk. I shook my head, "Of course not, they've been our rivals for as long as I can remember." I told him.
"Good, you should always remember that." He replied. "Now go, I have important stuff to attend to, I feel that someone is hiding that a shipment when missing and I'm going to find out who and why."
*Alexis's POV*
"Alexis Bradley, I understand you're looking for a job," He smirked, "How's your arm? It looked painful."
I couldn't move, I didn't know what to do. I wasn't expecting this.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, shocked. "I own this café." He told me. Looking smug,
"I'm leaving; I don't want this job anymore." I snapped, about to turn and walk away.
"Well that's too bad," He told me, "Oh look, my partner is here, he owns half of the café don't you know." He continued, looking behind me,
I turned slowly, terrified at who I'd see.
My breath caught in my throat when I saw who was standing behind me.
Betrayal washed over me. How could he?
