He'd messed up. He'd messed up big time. How was he supposed to now convince Avery that Brittany wasn't involved with him? He groaned, leaning his head against the locker next to his. The next time he saw her, he'd go right up and apologize for the kiss. Why though? He thought as he grabbed his History book and walked to class. It wasn't like he had cheated on her. But in a way it felt like he had.

“God your so stupid.” Aden muttered and a female voice snorted behind him. Turning, he saw Tally giving him a look a mother might give her child if they were disappointed in them.

“Yes, you are.” She muttered, before slipping past him and finding her seat. Aden sighed, rubbing a hand over his tired eyes. He hadn't seen Avery all weekend, and he was dying to explain to her. His heart jumped embarrassingly when he spotted her walking in. Regret coursed through him. Why hadn't you pulled away sooner? Because Brittany had that tight a hold on him it was painful. She smiled warmly at Scott, and a wave of jealousy threatened to sweep him under.

“Hey,” Aden smiled as she sat down next to him, and noticed in disappointment she sat farther away from him then normal. She shot him a smile, but it didn't reach her eyes.

“Hi.”

Aden tried thinking of something to say. How was he supposed to approach the subject? What if she hit him? What if she cried? What if he'd been making up all the chemistry and attraction between them? God, he'd never been this baffled around a girl.

“How was your night Saturday?” He asked, feeling a little lame. She didn't glance at him, instead kept her eyes on the board.

“Good, how was yours?”

“It wasn't actually.” That earned him a glance. “Look, Av, what happened the other night with Brittany-”

“-No, it's okay Aden. I don't care.”

“Oh,” was his stupid response. He felt the need to defend himself though, to prove that he hated every second of Brittany's kiss. “But I still want you to know that it meant nothing-”

She cut him off again. “Aden, you don't have to explain yourself, it's not like we're dating or anything.” He nodded, dejected, and turned to the board like she did. He peeked at her to make sure she was serious. And lingered on her face for a few seconds longer than necessary.

“What?” She whispered. He jumped. “Oh, ah, nothing.” She stared at him quizzically, then shook her head and returned her attention to the teacher.

“So we're good?” Aden whispered back, and Avery nodded, smiling slightly. “We're good.”

She was trying so hard to stay mad. So hard to stay away from the very person she wanted to be near. But his way of making her forgive him was almost to much to bear, and the worst part? He wasn't even doing it on purpose.

The way he smiled almost nervously when she'd seen him that morning, the way he seemed a little...flustered around her, how he felt he had to explain himself to someone he had known for two and a half weeks. It was downright...cute.

“Av, Scott's coming this way right now!” Tally whispered as they settled onto their normal table at lunch. She had been watching the taut muscles in Aden's back across the other side of the room and jumped when Tally whispered.

“Doesn't he normally sit with us?” Avery frowned. Tally was acting weird, in fact, she had been all day. She actually excused herself when Scott talked to to them this morning. What was weird was Tally was a social butterfly, she needed it to ground her.

“Yes but...I can't hold it in any longer! He'sgoingtoaskyouout.” Avery stared at her as if she'd just told her she'd been hiding her runaway kitten in her pantry all these years.
