The police and Fiona arrived the when Aden had gone home to have a rest, and Avery told them grimly what she had seen. Something about Fiona wasn't right though. Where she sat on the couch beside her, Fiona was as stiff as a board, her hands clamped in a painful looking grip in her lap, eyes trained on the outside window, as if she wanted to escape. The detective who had shown with the police kept sending her glances, he also tense and looking as though he'd rather have a dog chew his leg then be in the room. It was just weird.

"Okay, thank you for that Avery. We'll keep you up to date when we find out more." The tense detective, who's name she was sure was detective Grant, stood, his bright blue eyes watching Fiona again, who studiously ignored him. Avery frowned at her aunt, normally she had the perfect manners.

"Thank you gentleman, I'll see you at the office tomorrow." Fiona fired them a tight smile, standing aruptly and grasping the front door handle. The police officers said their goodbyes, and Avery watched as detective Grant paused, looking down on Fiona almost sadly, before walking out the door.

"Fiona," Avery asked, "what was that all about?"

Her aunt looked shocked for a few seconds before shaking her head. "Nothing sweetie, it's just been a long day."

"That wasn't nothing when you obviously ignored deetective Grant." Fiona sighed, rubbing her hands over her face, before taking a seat next to Avery again.

"That man is-I mean was, the love of my life. He left me years ago, and he's back."

Avery smiled. She loved romance! And Fiona needed some of that in her life right now. "Well why are you so down about it?" Avery asked, and when Fiona replied her voice was quiet.

"Because he brought back a wife and two kids."

She tossed and turned that night, trying to get comfortable. She was worried about Fiona, worried about hte shooting, just worried. And then the make out session with Aden? She mulled over how she felt about it, about him, realising just how attached she now was to him. Avery wondered why he'd stayed, taken care of her. The way he cuddled her when she had gotte flashbacks that morning. She had never felt safer with someone else, but she had also never experienced the intensity of her attraction to him. Whatever he was doing to her, she hoped like hell it lasted.

Finally, sleep caught up to her, and she drifted off peacefully, Aden's silly little grin in her head.

"I have been out of my mind worried, babe!" Tally cried, hugging Avery fiercly as soon as she'd gotten to school. Avery smiled, knowing how lucky she was for a friend like Tally.

"How are you?" She asked, her face like a concerned mothers.

"I'm fine, Tally. Are you going to the funeral at lunch?"

"Yeah, do you want to carpool?"

They walked in light conversation towards homeroom, when a figure stepped in front of Avery, stopping her.

"Hey," Scott said nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. The poor guy looked pale, and Avery touched his arm to calm him.

"Hey, Scott. How are you?" She asked politely, and he grunted in response.

"Fine, look, Av, I just want to say how sorry I am for taking you to that place and what happened." Scott said, the remorse in his eyes proving he was telling the truth. He looked like a little lost puppy, but before Avery had the chance to reply, a warm arm wrapped around her shoulders, pulling her close. Without looking she knew it was Aden. Butterflies exploded in her stomach when he dropped a quick kiss on her temple.

"You should be, what were you thinking?" Aden said coolly, and Avery narrowed her eyes at him.

"Scott, really, it's not your fault, okay?"

"Yeah, it is."

"Aden, it's not!"

Scott laughed slightly. "No, it's alright Av. It was my fault." He said, and he looked at Aden squarely.

"You treat her right, Shaw. I screwed up my chance, so don't do the same to yours." With that, Scott walked away, hands in his pockets, and Tally whistled quietly under her breath.

"He actually hasn't got a bad backside, believe it or not."

The tension broke, and the three walked to home room, Avery tucked under Aden's arm, Tally skipping ahead.
