“I feel like a giant sandwich.” Aden stated almost as soon as he'd walked through Avery's front door. She narrowed her eyes, shutting the door and turning into the living room.
“Well make yourself one.” She called, and she heard him sigh, then trudge into the kitchen. Avery was secretly liking having him in her house, although she'd never tell him that. Setting out her history books and finding a working blue pen, she started jotting down some key details. A clunk of several bowls brought her head up from a heavy looking textbook.
Avery's eyes bulged. “I thought you said a sandwich?!” Aden looked up and then back down at his four bowls of food. The first, she assumed was a turkey sandwich, looking at the meat. The second was filled with her favourite ice cream, topped with cream, the third holding thick cut chips and the fourth had more of a mixture, as though he just grabbed random items from Fiona's fridge and threw them in.
“Well, I can't just eat a sandwich on it's own, can I?”
“Why the hell not?”
“Because...it's just not right.” Avery tried not to seemed as amused as she felt. He looked genuinely confused, and she had to laugh at his logic.
“Okay, I'd understand the ice cream, but two other bowls full? I mean come on, Aden. You're a growing boy, but you're not growing that much.” Aden looked down at his bowls again, and then took a huge bite of his sandwich, swallowing.
“You know, if I knew you were going to be mean I wouldn't have come.” He said slowly, and Avery just shook her head.
“Let's just get on with it.”
Two hours later, Avery and Aden had completed a quarter of the assignment, got ice cream in Avery's plait and squashed chips on the rug. Avery was laughing hard when she checked the clock over Aden's shoulder and then gasped, jumping to her feet.
“What?” He questioned, looking around for signs of something odd.
“Scott will be here in 45 minutes! You need to leave.” Avery shoved at Aden's chest gently, but he didn't budge. Groaning, she raced up the stairs and leapt into the shower, washing the cookies and cream out of her hair and blow drying it straight. She selected a loose fitting white cream dress that hung at mid-thigh and was halter-neck. Applying some lip gloss and mascara, Avery grabbed a pair of ballet flats and rushed down the stairs, then realised she'd forgotten to zip up the back of her dress. Groaning, she reached behind her, but couldn't quite catch the zip in her hand.
“Here, let me.” A low, husky voice made her jump, and she looked over her shoulder to see Aden approaching slowly, his eyes dark, his gaze fixed on her like a predator's on prey. It made her feel hot all over. His hand grabbed the zip, grazing bare skin as it drifted up, and a haziness feel over the room. She turned slightly, a little afraid to meet his eyes because if she did, she might not be able to look away.
“Thank you,” She whispered, and turned ever so slightly. Aden's hand gripped her hips and she stepped back, only to hit a wall. Sucking in a breath as his chest collided with hers, Avery stared at his mouth, it curved into a sinful smirk.
“Aden I really don't think-” His lips pushed against hers, hot and slow, and searing heat exploded between the two. Avery froze, her inner battle crumbling as his hands trailed up her waist. Just as Avery felt him try to deepen the kiss, she felt herself become lost.
