I hope you like the new chapter! It's more mellow then some of the others, but I like it :)

For some strange, sudden reason, Avery felt a dead calm as she woke sleepily. Confused at the time, she glanced around her, realising she was in her bed room, and sun was currently shining through her windows like a spotlight.

Stirring slowly, she recalled the sadness of the funeral she'd just attended merely hours ago. Brittany had actually been well liked, considering her personality, but it was a huge tear-jerker nonetheless.

A low groan drifted into her ears, and Avery suddenly felt the slight dip in her soft mattress. From the sound and the heat emanating from the figure, she knew before looking Aden was beside her.

Turning, she saw he was out to it. Like he'd fallen asleep almost instantly. Soft snores were coming from his mouth, and she giggled slightly when he twitched, then rolled closer to her, trapping her with a heavy arm around her waist.

Giggling louder, she blew air onto his face, and watched as his face screwed up slightly. His usual sexy smirk was replaced with an air of innocence, and Avery felt content to watch him forever and not get bored.

"Am I amusing you?" His voice was muffled by one of her pillows, and she jumped slightly, then laughed louder.

"Yes, actually. You're a bed hog."

Without opening his eyes, Aden shrugged, pulling her closer. "You're beds comfortable."

Rolling her eyes, Avery tried pushing her body off the bed, but he put more pressure on her stomach, and she watched with pleasure as his forearm flexed easily, shrinking her back into the mattress.

"Stay." He commanded, still with closed eyes.

"I'm not a dog." She retorted, but lay still anyway. His eyelids finally lifted, and his head arched up, his bed hair one of the cutest things she'd ever seen.

"Could've fooled me." Avery slapped his bicep, and he jumped, eyes widening more as he woke up more.

"A very beautiful dog, though. You're a cocker spaniel, or a border collie."

"Not helping, Aden."

"I know! A bichon friese, that's you!"

"Fine, that means your a bassett hound."

Aden's eyes narrowed. "That wasn't nice." She giggled, rolling away again, just to get pulled back to his solid, hard chest.

"Let me go," she laughed as he tickled her sides lazily. "Not until you apologize."

"I'm sorry for calling you a bassett hound." Avery said, faking sincerity. He studied her face, his blue eyes seeing right through her, unbalancing her until she almost swayed back down beside him.

"I'm not buying it." He retorted, mocking annoyance. Closing his eyes again, he fell face first into the pillows, still keeping a grip on Avery.

She sighed. Then a thought hit her.

Snuggling closer, she curled her body tight against his side, and felt him stiffen in confusion. Smirking, she put her mouth close to his ear, and whispered in a surprisingly sultry voice, "If you let me go, I'll make you breakfast in bed."

His grip loosened, tempted, and she saw her chance. Leaping up in one fluid movement, she stood before him, Aden staring up, confused. Realization dawned on him, and his face darkened.

"No fair." He complained, and Avery almost forgot to laugh when she saw what spread out on her bed. Long, muscled limbs covered in golden brown skin, Aden's chest rose and fell slowly, his messy hair and stirking blue eyes throwing her off kilter again. And god, the hips...

"Eggs or pancakes?" She asked merrily, almost skipping from her bedroom.

"Both." Came the muffled reply.

Avery giggled again, something she realised she hadn't stop doing since she woke up next to the ridicuosly handsome guy lying on her bed. Feeling a pang of guilt for being happy after Brittany's sudden, shock death, she swallowed her smile and plodded into the open plan kitchen, going through the contents of the fridge and cupboards before finding the ingredients she needed.

Glancing at the clock as she cracked an egg into the frying pan, she read 4:15pm. Too late for breakfast, but hey, who cared?

Humming along to herself, Avery felt contentment she hadn't felt in years. It was like she had a rock to hold onto when gravity disappeared and tried prying her off the ground. Aden was solid, never wavering, always there. And she realised with sudden clarity that she hadn't had someone like that since her father died.

Aden and her hadn't actually talked about girlfriend and boyfriend, but they seemed like it, didn't they? He wouldn't spend so much time with her, otherwise, she reasoned, flipping off the fry pan and placing the eggs on a warm piece of toast. And then there was the fact he'd kissed her, multiple times now, and always seemed eager to see her.

But maybe she had read it wrong. Maybe he just felt bad about her, and was doing it out of pity. Shaking the negative thoughts away, she refused to imagine Aden giving up on her. It seemed too painful to think about.

Just as Avery closed the fridge door, she felt hands grip her waist and pull her round gently, pushing her up against the fridge lightly.

Gasping, she stared wide-eyed at Aden as he smirked, dropping his head low and ever so slowly, placed his lips on hers, Avery felt her body spark and short circuit, her nerves tingling, aware of every cell in her body. Aden's hands gripped her waist tighter, and his kiss became more purposeful.

Wrapping her arms around his neck tightly, Avery sighed into the kiss, and felt him pull back, much to her disappointment.

"What was that for?" She breathed, not daring to move and ruin the magical feeling of Aden so close.

"Hello." He grinned cheekily, lifting her easily onto the bench beside the fridge and standing between her legs.

"Well, hi." She smiled back, placing a light kiss on his soft mouth.

He smiled wider, then sniffed, stepping back. "Is that bacon I smell?"

"Mmhm," Avery muttered, grabbing the plate nearest to her and sliding it towards him.

"God, your'e amazing." He laughed, digging right in, gulping down his morsel before she had a chance to eat hers.

"I know, it's nice to hear it though." Avery teased, watching in delight as Aden's shoulders vibrated with laughter, before he talked again.

"You want to hear what else is amazing about you?"

Avery felt her heart jump. Nodding, he placed his fork down and walked back over to her.

"First, you're beautiful. It's one of the first things I ever noticed about you." He stalked closer, and Avery felt her heart battering on her ribcage.

"Second, you're funny, and smart. And your smile, it makes me want to smile." His upper thighs grazed hers as he settled back into the v of her legs dangling off the bench.

"Third, you're so strong, and determined. You're loyal to friends and family, and so, so caring. I could go on and on, Av, really, I could. But I do want you to myself, and not as just friends."

Avery didn't know what to say, so she kissed him. Hard.

His hands gripped her thighs, and as the steamy exchange took place, Avery imagined herself a few years from know, in a kitchen like this, with the same guy she was with right now.

And she knew her answer before he asked. When they pulled back, slightly out of breath, Avery knotted her fingers through his silky hair and nodded. And he understood.

They both laughed, and Avery felt in that moment that everything would be alright. They'd get on with life, they were okay, she was okay.

Little did she know, the worst was yet to come.
