Avery realised only a few minutes into their wild goose chase that one of Aden's secret fantasies was being a street racer, because even with the seriousness of who they were following, his eyes were lit with excitement as he took a sharp turn around a corner, obviously living Grand Theft Auto out in real life.

"Jeez, Aden, where did you learn to drive like a madman?" Tally asked, and Avery giggled as Aden smirked mischievously.

"Let's just say I wasn't the best behaved kid." He muttered, concentrating back on the task at hand. Following Scott and the mysterious driver he was with.

Avery frowned as she thought about their situation. What were they going to do when they catch up to them? If they catch up to them? What if Scott's gotten all hardcore, and they have guns? Fear raced through her veins as they neared the SUV, and Avery turned to look at Tally worriedly, biting down on her lip.

Tally wasn't sharing her concern, though, because she was leaning forward, clutching both headrests in either hands and smiling widely.

"This is so much fun." She said to her, and Avery rolled her eyes.

"We're chasing Scott and the guy potentially responsible for the shooting, and you think this is fun?"

Tally shrugged. "Beats getting sunburnt."

Avery decided to agree to disagree, turning back around in her seat to face Aden. "What happens when we catch them?" She asked, biting down on her lip again. Aden's eyes never left the road, but he replied.

"I haven't thought that through yet."

Avery went to talk, but he shut her up by continuing. "I'll sort it out, stop panicking. It'll be okay."

Avery wanted to tell him that no, it wasn't okay, because they should be calling Fiona, or Barker, or any member of the police department because this is the sort of thing police did, not three eighteen year old students. They should get the number plate, the make of the car, and call it in. They should do something law-abiding, but no, Avery had managed to fall in love with a boy who had a secret fetish for crime, and had a best friend that thrived on drama and breaking the law.

Suddenly, the SUV pulled into what looked like an old abandoned warehouse, and Avery gasped when she realised where they were. It was the building of the club that Scott had taken her too the night he took her out on a date. Aden obviously realised this too, because his knuckles became white with the grip he had on the wheel, and he cursed under his breath.

He pulled into the curb, turning the car off. Turning to look at Avery and Tally, his shocking blue eyes connected with Avery's, holding the contact.

"You two need to stay here-"

Avery held up a hand, and Tally scowled. "We are not going to sit in the car while you go in and potentially risk your life!" She said in a firm voice, but he must have heard the worry, because his face softened slightly, before Tally chimed in.

"Nows not the time to get all noble and shit, Aden. We're all going in together."

Avery watched him struggle with his decision, and groaned out loud when he said a firm, "No."

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes."

He glared at the two girls, who held a united front. Then he sighed, running a hand through his hair. Avery noticed it was getting slightly shaggy, but ignored the random observation when he spoke.

"If I still say no, you'll just follow me in, won't you?"

Avery and Tally smiled in unison.

"You know both Fiona and Barker will kill me if I let you come, don't you Av?" He said in an exasperated voice. "And your mum, Tally. Ronda can be pretty scary when I get you in trouble."

"We'll be fine. Now let's go." Tally ushered them out of the car, and Aden grabbed Avery's hand, halting her and holding her in place. She turned to him and frowned, but found his lips instead. Avery sighed as he pulled his face away from hers slowly, a small smile on his face.

"Be careful in here, okay?"

Avery smiled, giving him another peck. "I will if you will."

He rolled his eyes, then looked down into her eyes, a genuine warmth filling his eyes, and an emotion that filled his eyes that Avery recognized as the same one when they had first made love.

"You know, right now might be a good time to say that I love you."

Avery didn't feel the shock that some people experienced when hearing those words, because she already knew, deep down, how he felt about her, the same way she felt about him. It wasn't news to her, even if it was the first time he'd said it, it was more like a confirmation, but the feeling that filled her when he said those three words had her smiling widely and buzzing with happiness.

"Well just for the record, I love you too."

"Oh, I know," He grinned cheekily, but it was full of happiness too.

"You do?" Avery raised her eyebrows, teasing.

"Yeah, otherwise you wouldn't have forgiven me for getting chocolate milk on your scarf."

Avery laughed, kissing him again. "You're right."

Suddenly, Tally made her presence known, and Avery blushed a little, realising she'd forgotten where they were.

"As touching as that was, and as goo-ey and fan-girly I feel inside, we kind of have a serious matter at hand." Tally said, and Avery and Aden both nodded, Aden walking in front as they entered the warehouse warily.

Fear washed over Avery again, but it was more for the people she was with, because she couldn't lose them. Tally was so important to her, and Aden, well, he was half of her life now. She couldn't imagine it without him, and the thought had her quite emotional. Then, anger filled her. Who did this guy think he was? Making her life complicated, putting her family and friends at risk? She was driven by her anger as they stepped into one of the dark rooms, and she almost bumped into Aden's back when he stopped.

Scott stood off to one side slightly, and his eyes were full of pleading as Avery locked eyes with him. It was like he was telling her to leave, get out of there, but she frowned and looked away to the other man approaching.

Then, her breath was ripped out of her lungs when she looked up to the mans face. She saw Aden tense, and heard Tally gasp as they saw his face too.

The man stared back at Avery with a twisted smile on his lips. He stared at her with eyes identical to her own, and features too similar to be a coincidence.

"Hello, my beautiful daughter." The man spoke, and Avery felt herself grow cold with fear.
