Chapter 2
"So...nice movie."
I looked to him and laughed "Yeah right. Do you even remember the plot?"
Luis shrugged and gave me a crooked smile. "Not at all. But what I do know is that you make a pretty good Xena Goodwill."
I smirked as I walked over to the large flatscreen in front of us and took out the disk. My initial anger over my mom leaving and dumping me with a "babysitter" had left, and I was starting to think that maybe it wasn't so bad to have someone around my age with me, instead of Aunt Julie. Besides, what power could he possibly hope to hold over me?
"You're just being nice," I said as I made my way back to the sofa. "It wasn't good at all. You should've seen the look on my mom's face when she finished watching this...my God, she even threatened to end my acting career." I rolled my eyes at the last part.
"Whatever you say. But I still think you can really kick butt." he told me, referring to the part when I knocked out three spies.
"You bet I can."
I couldn't tell if he believed me or not.
"We'll, it's twelve thirty already," he remarked. "Aren't you supposed to be eating lunch right now?"
I cocked an eyebrow. "Hungry already?" I got up as well and rolled my shoulders. "Well, I'm usually studying at this time. I eat at one."
Luis looked bewildered. "You study in your spare time? During summer vacation?"
"Why not?" I smirked. Just because my career was set before me didn't mean I couldn't try getting the most out of my education. Besides, somewhere in the back of my mind I foolishly hoped she would let me be something else. A veterinarian, anything. "Anywhoo, I'm supposed to be going on a picnic with my friends today, out on the estate. If you wanna eat now, just go ask the chef."
"It's alright, I'll eat later." he stuffed his hands in the pockets of his hoodie and looked at me.
I looked around, wondering what to do with Luis next. I couldn't just go study and leave the guy around to wreck my house. And he didn't want to eat...
"How 'bout a quick tour of the house?" I suggested.
"Sure, this place is really big."
"Hm. Our house in London's much bigger." I walked up the stairs and told Luis to stay where he was. I needed to check something first. He nodded and I walked up to the second floor, into my mother's room. Just as expected, there was a scrawled-out list sitting on her desk with instructions regarding the babysitter.
Instructions for Jaylee:
1) Treat the babysitter like an authorative figure.
2) He has power over you. (Get that straight)
3) Our contract states that Luis is to live here for as long as he needs to. (Guest room #4 has been set up for him)
4) His number is (864) 658-6836, and his mother's is (864) 929-1463, in case you need to reach her
5) Have fun, be nice, and remember to call 911 if he tries to rape you!
Love, Mom
I shook my head in disbelief as I re-read her list of directions. Did this woman have any hint of sanity left in her?
