I was not expecting this to take on the path, but I started to read other people's works when it hit me; lets make Peter have Disassociative Personality Disorder.
The personalities:
Peter:
Shy, intelligent and clumsy
He is sheltered by his other personalities when the battle gets tough. He has mild depression.
Spider:
heroic, calm, gentle and strong
Spider jumps in when Peter is in a state of panic during a fight or if Peter cannot think rationally.
Scarlet: childish, excitable, energetic and playful
Scarlet comes at random, but coincidentally at good times. She is a child at heart and loves good banter. (The she is not a typo)
Through my writers block, I hope you like this new spin I'm taking things on.
