"Phil-" began Dan the next morning when he saw his friend.

Phil cut his short, raising his finger to silence him.

He took at deep breath, "Dan look- I like you, you're my best friend-" Dan felt his cheeks burn at what Phil was about to say and interrupted.

"I know," said Dan. "We're just friends. I'm sorry, I-"

"Dan just listen," sighed Phil.

Dan went silent.

"Dan, I like you, you're my best friend. I just don't know how to think about this. I mean, after everything's that happened and then..." he trailed off. Phil sighed, looking away from Dan. "Look," he said. "I liked it."

Dan's heart skipped a beat and it took a moment for him to understand what Phil had just said.

"I- I- I'm sorry," stuttered Dan. "You- you liked it?"

"I don't want to make things weird between us," burst out Phil as if trying to defend himself. "It's just- well, I mean, things are already kinda weird with me, uh, dying and all... but look-"

"Shut up," said Dan. "Just shut up Phil."

Phil mumbled to himself and looked up at Dan, his blue eyes round an innocent.

He had always loved that about Phil, how innocent his eyes were.

Dan stepped forwards carefully. In light of all that had happened, Dan felt his emotions about to spill over the edge, he was confused beyond belief and a total mess. He didn't want to lose Phil ever again but a part of him knew Phil wouldn't be here long. He seemed almost to be no more than a passing memory. But while he was here;

"Shut up," breathed Dan his fingers on Phil's cheeks. Phil's breath hitched as he didn't step away. "Shut up and kiss me."
