"How do I look?" Asked Dan, turning to face Phil with a grin.
"You look great," said Phil cheerfully, his hand on the suit jacket as he gently straightening Dan's tie.
"Female magnetism right here," laughed Dan in abnormally high spirits. Phil laughed forcefully watching as his friend spun around.
"You're very happy," laughed Phil.
"Well I'm trying not to break down with anxiety," said Dan, looking at Phil. "You don't think I'm dressing up too much, do you?" He asked Phil, turning to look at himself in the mirror, tugging on the black suit.
"No- well, I don't really know her," he said, his eyes trained on Dan.
"I mean, it is just a pub," said Dan. He was nervous. He hardly knew this girl. He didn't even know if he liked her.
Half of Phil guiltily wanted everything to go horribly wrong so that Dan would come back and... and... well... it didn't matter. It wouldn't happen anyway.
The other half wanted Dan to be happy and hoped that everything went well. It's not a date, he reminded himself. It's just a girl, Phil, it's just a stupid girl.
"I've got to go!" Exclaimed Dan suddenly, snapping Phil out of his retrieve, excitedly looking down at his watch. "Wish me luck Phil!" His eyes were bright as he ran through the door, slamming it after him.
"Good luck!" Called Phil but Dan was already gone and his voice echoed as he was left alone in the silence. "Good luck," he muttered under his breath turning away from the door.
