Kaden
"Kaden," Audrey called as I walked to the bathroom from my room. Audrey had been coming from downstairs, likely meaning that she hadn't slept well, if at all that night.
"Something up?" I asked, it was 6 in the morning and I wasn't thinking properly.
"So, your mom showed up last night." Audrey said, and I nodded starting my tedious morning routine.
"Not uncommon." I pointed out. That was true, my mom made a point to stop my and make sure we were all here and taken care of. I didn't know if it was because I was her daughter or if it was because of how many abandoned kids had taken refuge in this house over the years.
"She said that you Christine and I should go downtown to the gun show and find Ares. That he would have information about our predicament." Audrey stated bluntly.
"Really?" I asked looking at her with a look of amusement. It was 6:10 in the morning Audrey was trying to go gun show. The thing is, Audrey loves guns, and weapons.
"No I'm serious!" The look of alarm in her face and eyes was enough to tell me that she was telling the truth.
"Let's go talk to my dad." I said.
Someone would think that with possibly vital information dangling in front of us we would be allowed to skip school, yea not the case here.
"You girls will go to school and then afterwards you can go find Ares at the gun show." My dad said.
"Please Mr.-Kaden's-dad?" Audrey pleaded.
"No," My dad said in a voice that said that no argument would win it for us. "I will call Christine's parents today and see if it's ok for her to come after school for a few hours. But you two will go to school." This was fine with me, but you could tell that sleep-deprived-Audrey was having other thoughts.
"Yes sir," Audrey said weakly.
One word to describe the school day. Long. The day seemed to drag on and on, never seeming to inch forward. And when it did it do so at a pace that even a dead snail could beat.
"Finally, stars the day took FOREVER," I told Audrey as she sat down on the bus next to me.
"Tell me about," she replied. Jack and Ian came on talking loudly about something, taking their seats in front of us. They had yet to be informed of the journey that Audrey Christine and I would be taking later.
"You ready?" I asked quietly, trying to not catch the boys attention. She looked at me with a weak smile.
"As ready as I can be." She grimaced.
The bus finally dropped us off at our stop after what seemed like a lifetime (even though it was only 10 minutes).
Riley open the door to everyone's surprise.
"Riley your home early," Jack said surprised, normally Riley wouldn't be home until eight or nine on a school night, as he tried to take as many college classes as the day would allow. After graduating high school Valedictorian at twelve, to him nothing seemed to hard except, you know no brainer things like eating, brushing teeth and sleeping.
"Yep, we have things to discuss," was Riley replied, to with the boys glanced at each other uncertainly.
Making our way to the family room I noticed that some wonderful human being (my dad) had turned the fireplace on so that the fire was crackling softly. I sat down next to the fire, while Audrey and Jack "shared" the couch. And by that I mean that Jack was sitting down and Audrey had laid across the entire couch with her feet in Jack's lap. Ian took a chair and Riley took another a small desk laid out for him to put his laptop on. Christine came in looking around at the set up awkwardly, till Audrey swung down and offered her a spot between her and Jack. She opted for the floor instead, I didn't Blame her.
