Don't Let Me Go

Chapter Four

A couple weeks later:

Harry and I have been dating for a couple weeks now and it's going great. We've been getting a lot closer and we're learning a lot more about each other. He is leaving to go back to work with his band, so he won't be around as much anymore. I've been trying to spend as much time as possible with him until he has to leave. I really was going to miss him.

I woke up around 10 and realized I had work today. I got up and got ready for work. I showered, and then curled my hair. I got dressed in my waitressing outfit which was black jeans, a white blouse, and a red tie. Then I did my make-up. I grabbed my phone and money and put them in my purse. I ate a quick snack because I was pretty hungry. I looked at the clock and it read 11:30. Perfect timing. I headed outside to my car, and then drove to work. I got there around 11:45. I went inside and checked in for my shift which was gonna be from noon till 6. I grabbed my apron and name tag from the back and put them on.

"Hey boss," I said to my boss Karen who was in the back as well.

"Hey Mel. Today's lunch hour might be busy, so be prepared." she warned me.

"I can handle it." I said grabbing my tray and order slips.

'I know you can." she said. I smiled at her as I went back out to the front to start my shift. I remembered a few weeks back when I had my last afternoon shift.

*Flashback*:

"Hey Mel!" I heard the familiar voice say behind me. I turned around to meet Danny standing behind me.

"Hey Danny!" I said.

"So, Iz was texting me this morning saying you weren't at your apartment this morning so she called the cops."

"Yeah, she did." I said.

"So where were you?" she asked me.

"Well, I got jumped walking home and this boy Harry came and saved me. He brought me to his place and took care of me. I spent the night there, so I wasn't home, and Iz called the cops."

"OMG! Mel, are you okay? Well, more importantly, was the boy who saved you cute?" she asked completely forgetting the fact if I was hurt or not. I laughed at her.

"Yeah." I said.

"Shut up!! Oh girl you need to get with that!" she said in a sassy voice.

"Oh, don't worry. I already got with it." I said smiling and nodding.

"No way!! Man, girl you work fast. And you only just met yesterday?" she asked me surprised.

"Yeah, but I guess it was almost love at first sight. Not completely, but almost." I said.

"That's so cute!!" Danny exclaimed.

"Yeah," I said blushing. "Well, we should probably get to work." I said.

"Yeah, good idea. I'm so broke right now, it's not even funny." she said. I was laughing as I got to work.

*End of flashback*

As I came back to reality Danny was standing there again. I jumped.

"Oh my God, Danny don't do that!" I exclaimed.

"Sorry, it just didn't seem like you were really present for a second." she said.

'Well I am now." I said. "I gotta start my shift. I'll talk to you after" I said walking over to my tables. When I approached my first table I recited the familiar saying that I say over and over to every customer every work day.
