The next morning I woke up around ten o' clock. I stretched, rubbed my eyes, and looked over at the bureau where Harry was standing. He was holding a paper in his hands. Then he noticed I as awake.
"Oh, morning." he said.
"Morning." I said.
"You kept this?" Harry said, holding up the piece of paper. It was the letter that he wrote to me that came with the flowers at the beginning of his trip.
"Yeah, why? You thought I would throw it out?" I asked surprised.
"No, it's just, nice to know you kept it." I smiled. I got out of bed and walked over to him. I came and stood right in front of him.
"Of course I did." I whispered. I cupped his face in my hands and brought it to mine, pressing my lips lightly to his. I lingered there for a few seconds as Harry tried to deepen the kiss. I pulled away before he could.
"You're such a tease." he said. I just giggled as I walked away into the kitchen to get breakfast. I made ma and Harry some waffles and we sat down and ate them. We decided to clean up all of the decorations around the apartment today. We got dressed and then started cleaning. Harry pulled out the vacuum and started cleaning up the confetti, while I washed the dishes from last night. Once we finished that we started on taking down the streamers. I grabbed the stool from the closet and started taking down streamers from the walls.
"Do you want me to do that?" Harry asked, coming up behind me.
"No, I got it, thanks." I said.
"Be careful." he said.
"I know, I know." I said. Harry stood behind me for a bit, and once he saw I was fine he went to put the last remaining dishes away. I got to a streamer that I could just barely reach, but I was determined. I stood on my tippy toes and stretched my arm out. I finally grabbed enough of it to pull it down, when all of a sudden my foot slipped and the stool collapsed from under me. I went tumbling to the ground. I let out a piercing scream as I felt my leg crack from under me. I heard a dish smash from the kitchen and then Harry rushing over to me.
"Mel!" he said bending down next to me.
"My leg, my leg, Harry it hurts." I said, tears falling down my face.
"We gotta get you to the hospital." he said, and I could tell he was trying to be as calm as he could. He swung me up in his arms bridal style and carried me out the door, and down to the car. He opened the door and placed me gently in the passenger seat. He came around to the driver's side and hopped in, driving off to the hospital. I stared at my leg, which was in so much pain that it was almost unbearable. It was badly bruised all on my shin, and was most likely broken. When we got to the hospital, Harry carried me inside and brought me to the desk.
"Excuse me, um we need a doctor. I think her leg is broken." he said to the lady working at the desk. She looked up at us and saw my leg. She then nodded quickly. She hit a button at her desk and talked into a phone for a second. Then all of a sudden a doctor and a nurse came rushing out of a pair of swinging doors wheeling a bed over to us.
"Place her right on here please." the doctor said calmly. Harry gently laid me on the bed, and it started wheeling away. Harry followed the bed, telling the doctor any information he could about me, until I was taken into a room. The door shut leaving him outside.
Two hours later:
I sat in my hospital bed, with my leg elevated with a sling thing, as the doctor, Dr. Phyllis, told me what was going on. She said a bunch of stuff I didn't understand, used a lot of terms that were unknown to me, but overall I got it. Basically, my leg was broken, and it had to be in a cast for four to six weeks. I had snapped my whole shin bone, and also hit a tendon in my knee. The cast ran all the way up to the top of my knee. I chose a pink cast. After something as simple as falling off a stool, this was a pretty big injury. I was a clutz some times. Once Dr. Phyllis finished, she asked me if I understood.
