Albus had said that everyone in school knew there was something going on between me and Scorpius, but when we walked into the great hall for breakfast on Monday morning holding hands. A significant amount of muttering ensued.
"What do you think they would do if you sat at the Gryffindor table?" I whispered to Scorpius.
"I think it's safe to say that people's eyeballs would pop out of their heads." He said out of the corner of his mouth. I snickered as he sat at the Slytherin table, and I at the Gryffindor. Hugo were staring at me, open mouthed. Lily just gave me a knowing grin.
"What...you...Malfoy...hands...what?!" Hugo spluttered. I looked at Lily.
"I thought everyone knew about us."
"Wait," Hugo still looked dumbstruck, "that rumor, was...was real?!"
"Well it certainly is now." I said, digging into a plate full of eggs.
"What's that supposed to mean? You guys are dating? Oh my god, you're dating aren't you? This is crazy, dad's gonna kill you, you know that right? He's going to murder you and your boyfriend both. I can't believe this, you, Rose Weasley, and Scorpius Malfoy? This is crazy." I watched Hugo ramble on about the "complete and utter insanity" that was happening, but all I could think about was Saturday night, and Scorpius's lips against mine.
We hadn't kissed since then. I think both of us actually needed time to process what was happening. And after many long hours of contemplation, I, at least, had come to a conclusion. I was falling for Scorpius Malfoy.
Hugo was right. Dad was gonna kill me. My thoughts were interrupted when Albus plunked down next to me, looking excited.
"Quidditch match, next Sunday, Gryffindor versus Slytherin. You and your new boyfriend will be enemies."
"Will you guys please stop calling him that!" I said exasperatedly. "He has a name you know."
"Huh, yeah like we're going to start calling him," Lily made a face, "Scorpius."
"Is that really so much to ask?"
"Yes." Lily, Hugo, and Albus said simultaneously. I slumped in my seat, defeated.
"Anyway, back to Quidditch. Rose, you, James, and Amanda need to start practicing this new technique. It's called the Hawkshead Attacking Formation, and it is brilliant." I nodded along to what Albus was saying, as he demonstrated the move with his hands. "And then you come up from behind and can nail it right in there, they'll never see it coming." Albus said happily.
"Albus, do you ever think about anything other than Quidditch?" Lily questioned.
"No." Hugo answered.
"Don't be stupid of course I do, I think about lots of things." Albus eyes became unfocused, and he turned slightly pink.
I looked at him, amused, "I know what Al thinks about."
Albus shoved me, and Lily and Hugo laughed. The bell rang, and we all gathered our stuff for our next class. Lily and Hugo headed for the History of Magic corridor, while me and Al walked towards the dungeons and the Potions classroom. Yet we had barely made it to the corridor when I felt someone grab my hand from behind.
I turned, and, seeing Scorpius, smiled. As he pulled me into a deserted classroom, Albus called after us. "Have fun!" I didn't have the energy to go and punch him, or else I would have, trust me.
Scorpius shut the door behind us and sighed, relieved. "Phew, I was afraid we would never have a moment alone."
"What do you mean?" I laughed as he drew closer.
"I mean, when we're surrounded by judgmental classmates, I can't do this." He leaned forward, kissing me softly, then pulled away, smiling. He placed his hands on my waist, but they slowly slid up to my hair, his fingers running through my curls. I shivered at his touch. My hands rested on the back of his neck, his skin was warm and soft.
Suddenly a loud BANG, echoed through the room, and me and Scorpius broke apart, surprised. "What are you doing to my cousin you bastard!" James burst into the room, his wand drawn and pointed at Scorpius.
"James!" I jumped in front of James's wand as he attempted to cast another stunning spell. The spell flew over my shoulder, and Scorpius ducked, barely missing it. "James, stop." I said firmly.
"But he was! I don't..." James was looking at me, angry and bewildered at the same time.
"James, me and Scorpius are..." I hesitated, what were we? Dating seemed like a strange word to describe us, while friends was just plain ridiculous. What kind of friends made out in deserted classrooms? "We're, Scorpius is my...boyfriend."
I swear James's eyes nearly popped out of his head. "He's your, boy..." He trailed of, seemingly incapable of speach.
"Yeah." I looked at Scorpius, who beamed, and stepped forward.
"Oh no." James said, stepping in front of me protectively. "This is not gonna happen, not under my watch." He grabbed my arm and began to pull me out of the classroom.
"Sorry!" I called back to Scorpius. "I'll just deal with this and then-" but I was cut off as James dragged me outside into a wave of students. He marched me down the hall until we came to a deserted corridor.
"James, get off me." I managed to shake him off once we had stopped. He turned on me furiously.
"Rose Weasley, what are you thinking? Not only does that git burn through girls faster than anyone at this school, but he is a Malfoy."
"And why does it matter if he's a Malfoy?" I questioned, deciding to ignore the first part.
"You know why! Because his dad used to be a Death Eater, and from what I've heard from dad, his mum is a bit crazy."
"He-wait what?" I said, catching the last part. "What do you mean his mum's crazy?"
"I don't know exactly, but that doesn't matter. We are talking about you going completely insane."
"I am not insane James! I really like Scorpius, and I don't really care what you think about it." I turned and stalked off.
"Your dad's gonna kill you!" James called after me.
Twice that has been mentioned today, I just hope it doesn't turn out to be true.
