Stepping into Gryffindor common room was a bit like stepping into an explosion of noise. The Weird Sisters played loudly from a magical speaker in the corner, people were still cheering and congratulating the players, and reliving the match in increasingly loud voices with each bottle of firewhiskey downed.
"I'll go get us some drinks." I half shouted to Scorpius over the noise.
"Drinks?"
"Don't get excited, it's only butterbeer."
Scorpius grinned, and I turned toward a table laden with food and drink. I grabbed two butterbeers and was going back to Scorpius when James got in the way.
"What is he doing here?" He demanded.
"Who, Scorpius?"
"Yes, Scorpius, Scorpius Malfoy."
"I invited him."
"You invited him? Why! Why would you do that Rose?"
"Because! I felt like it! And you have no right to dictate what I do James." I pushed past him, squeezing through the crowd, but I could still hear him shout over the noise.
"I'm not dictating! I'm just outraged!"
I handed a butterbeer to Scorpius and popped open my own.
"So what was that about?"
"James? Oh it was nothing, he was just being stupid and stuck up, as usual." Scorpius nodded slowly, sipping his drink.
"C'mon," I grabbed his arm, pulling him through the crowd, "I want you to meet my other, friendlier cousin."
We found Albus in a corner, standing with Louis, both looking suspiciously at James as he rallied a group of seventh years, shouting, "Who wants to play Spin the Bottle!"
"He'll be after us soon." Albus said, looking at me, then he noticed Scorpius, and smiled, holding out a hand "Hullo, you're Scorpius right? I'm Albus Potter." Scorpius took his hand and shook.
"And this is my little cousin Louis," I gestured to the smaller, blonde boy, "Louis, this is Scorpius Malfoy."
Scorpius and Louis shook hands, "I'm pleased to meet you both." Scorpius said, smiling.
"Hey! Louis, Albus, Rose, come play!" James shouted over to us, "But don't bring him, nobody likes him." The seventh years laughed openly.
"I'm sorry about my brother." Albus said, glancing at Scorpius awkwardly.
"It's really no pro-"
"Come on you guys! Although I will be forced to make Malfoy kiss Jacobs here if he decides to join." One of his friends shoved him.
I turned on James angrily. "You are a complete arse James Potter!"
"Hey I just want you guys to play a round of Spin the Bottle!"
"Fine, you know what? Fine. If you lay off Malfoy we will play one round with you, one round!" James looked satisfied.
"Rose!" Scorpius and Al said simultaneously. I turned to them apologetically.
"Sorry, but it's just one round, ok? For," I glanced at Scorpius, "me?"
They grumbled an agreement and we went to sit in the circle with a bunch of James's friends, and most of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, including Alex. James grabbed an empty bottle of fire whiskey and passed it to Alex first. Alex took it and spun it in the center, it came to a slow stop on a seventh year girl across the circle, Alex leaned over and kissed her to whoops and cheers from the rest of the players.
Then he passed it over to Albus. "Your turn, mate." Albus spun the bottle, and blushed a deep crimson when it landed on Alex. Albus looked up at the other boy's face, also red, and gave him a swift kiss, then began a serious contemplation of his shoes.
Next it was my turn. "Oooooh, this should be interesting." James said as the rest of the seventh years laughed.
"Shut up James." I spun the firewhiskey bottle, and it, again, came to a stop on Alex. I ignored James and his friends as they all said in unison.
"Ooooooooh." I leaned across Albus and gave Alex a peck on the cheek, but I should've know I wouldn't be able to get away with that. Even Alex was smirking as everyone in the circle began to complain.
"Fine! Fine! I'll kiss him. See? Look." I put my hand on the back of Alex's neck and pulled him forward, giving him a dramatic kiss, to many whoops and wolf whistles. I rolled my eyes and handed the bottle to Scorpius, who spun it in a slow circle. The mouth of the bottle passed James, Alex, Albus, and rested on.....me.
The entire circle erupted in laughs, but I was looking at Scorpius, and he was looking at me.
"Sorry." He said quietly.
"No, no it's fine, that's the game right?"
"Yeah, that's the game."
And as the chuckles and hoots of laughter died away, Scorpius leaned forward, he was so close I could see flecks of deep blue in his eyes. Then he kissed me, full on the mouth. It wasn't any longer than the other ones, but even when he pulled away, slowly, I could still feel his lips on mine. Their slight taste of butterscotch and vanilla.
Then sound seemed to enter back into my brain, and Scorpius, slightly pink, had turned back to the center of the circle. I did the same, my ears feeling hot.
"Ok, we played one round, James, we're going." I stood and was followed by Albus and Scorpius.
When we were a safe distance from the circle Albus left for the boys dormitory, and me Scorpius were alone.
"So, um I'd better be going." Scorpius said, his face was still a bit pink.
"Yeah, of course, and sorry, again, about my cousin."
"I don't mind, I'm glad I came."
"Me too." I smiled as he turned towards the portrait hole. He glanced back, waving.
"See you Rose."
"Bye Malfoy." He grinned and climbed out into the corridor. I turned around slowly, still smiling, and saw Albus, who raised an eyebrow. I walked up to him and said.
"Shut up." Then made my way to the girls dormitory, ignoring his knowing chuckle.
