Atomic's Perspective

We fly over a small town called Ma'dun. Alexandra steers Majirica to the town.

''Follow me,'' she yells. I swoop down, Ella and Serafina following me. They look at me, confused. I shrug.

Majirica lands with a thud. We're a bit more graceful.

Screams echo through the town. I run. Ella flies overhead, and Sera's eyes grow wide.

''It's the humans,'' she yells. Yup. Solders disguised as Animal Control. Guns out, they shoot at the dragons. Children scream as their houses burn to the ground.

A little girl runs up to us.

''Help! You are the half dragons! Please, help,'' she screams.

''Alex,'' I yell. Alexandra comes running.

''It's a baby dragon. Take her somewhere safe.'' She nods. ''I have a mental connection with Majirica. She'll know if you need help,'' she says.

''I'm Mhysa, by the way,'' the girl tells me.

I grab my gun. Sera and Ella get their weapons. I shoot, killing humans with every shot. Ella roars into battle. Serafina attacks, helping dragons to safety when she can.

Just when I think the battle will never end, a roar comes from the sky. It almost sounds like a bass drop, but it rattles the ground. I look up, and gasp.

Alexandra rides Majirica into the thick of battle, screaming commands. And the dragon itself is like something I've never seen.

Fire comes out of her snout, burning hot. Her eyes blaze in anger. Her massive body sways in the air, her wings flapping furiously. Her spiked tail lashes in menace. The confidence Alexandra has is insurmountable. She jumps off the dragon, and screams words in the Dragon Language.

''Ska'r.''

A blue wave of energy racks the town. It spreads out, blowing up all of the tanks. The humans die, their weapons break. Alexandra leans on Majirica, exhausted. She used magic.

I catch her as she collapses into unconsciousness. Majirica snorts in worry.

''Is she okay,'' Majirica asks in the Dragon Language. I nod. She breaths a sigh of relief.

''What does ska'r mean,'' Ella asks.

''Kill,'' I respond. Then, all the dragons start chanting cries of praise to us. I smile and wave. Ella and Sera do the same. Then, I see that my hair grew back. My scales on my leg are there again. My clothes are in one piece again.

Sera and Ella's torture marks have gone, too. I think it was Alex's magic. She outdid herself.

As the dragons leave, I lift Alex onto Majirica's massive back. She roars in affection for Alexandra.

We all fly away, queens of the sky.

**********

We make camp by a small stream, under the cover of trees. I hate water.

We start a fire, Majirica's body curved around the camp. We nestle under her wing.

The, I hear a noise I miss dearly. DarkSky.

''DarkSky,'' I call out. She comes flying into my chest, and I hug her. Something is in her mouth. A letter, addressed to me, from Ted. I rip it open.

Dear Atomic,

Where are you? I came to your house and the door was broken down. The place was rubble, and I thought you were dead. I freaked out. But I know you're alive. I've heard rumors about three half dragons roaming the country. They're bad news. Stay away from them, because I know you are one of the three. Come home, be normal again. I miss you. Don't die.

~Ted.

My eyes flash with anger as I throw the letter into the fire, grab it out of the fire, create a pool of acid, and throw the flaming paper into it. The idiot! I can't be normal. I'm an acid dragon, to start with. I'm insane. I'm a criminal. I'm one of the last half dragons. I need to save the world.

''Calm down,'' Serafina says, grabbing me. I sit, the anger leaving my face.

''What was that,'' Ella asks. I wave my hand, reversing the process, and hand them the letter.

''Wow,'' is all they say. I nod. Majirica hisses at the letter. I pat her massive head. DarkSky whimpers. I hug her.

''What's that,'' Ella asks, looking at DarkSky.

''My pet dragon-wolf, DarkSky,'' I mutter.

''You don't seem like the pet type,'' Sera says. ''And who's Ted?''

''My boyfriend. Or should I say, boyfiend.''

''You have a boyfriend,'' Ella gawks. I nod. ''Yep, believe it or not, I used to be normal.'' I say.

''You never told us,'' Ella whines. ''There wasn't time,'' I respond.

**********

Majirica covers the other two with her wing as they fall asleep. I work on a reply to Ted. After a while, I finish it. I hope I sound angry enough.

Ted,

No, I can't be normal. I have a price on my head, and the fate of the world is in my hands. For the other half dragons, their names are Ella and Serafina. Tell the humans, I don't care. Just know I am their friend. We were tortured. You'll most likely say ,'' Well when I thought you died, it tortured me.'' No. That's stupid. I had scales shaved off my leg, my hair was cut, and the others went through the same treatment. And you know who did it? The humans.

I also met a dragon rider. Her dragon is the size of your whole house or bigger, and will kill you at my command. Her name is Alexandra. She saved my life. You would run and hide. While you did nothing but sit and cry for me, I saved lives, killed humans, and learned that I need to save the world. I'm in a battle for my life, Ted.  Wow, Ted. I had no idea you were such a good actor. That last letter was so believable. You didn't, and couldn't fool even rocks. And you're right. The half dragons are dangerous, especially when you make them angry.

~Atomic

P.S. If DarkSky comes back to me with even a scratch, I will burn your flesh off.

Yeah. I went on a rant. By the time I finish writing that, It's morning.

As the others wake up, I ask them to read the letter.

''Wow. Great. Send it,'' Ella says.

''Send it,'' Sera mumbles.

As DarkSky flies away with the letter, I imagine Ted's reaction.

Alexandra wakes up, and we explain what happened. I even recount my letter to Ted.

''That's harsh,'' she says. I nod. ''That's the point,'' I reply.

She mounts Majirica, and we soar off, waiting for whatever horror comes our way next.

Yes, I named the kid Mhysa.
