Yuki quickly returned the 3DMG before sprinting to Levi's office, checking a clock on the wall on the way there and arriving just on time. Taking a deep breath, she knocked on the door.
"Come in." Levi looked up from his desk as she entered. "Cadet Yuki Aachen. Your report?"
Yuki immediately saluted out of instinct. "It may take a few minutes to explain, if that's alright, sir!"
Levi narrowed his eyes. "Get on with it."
"My squad and I were collecting our 3 dimensional maneuvering gear from the arsenal when we encountered Takada, sir. Cadet Kirstein made a few smart remarks, along with Cadet Jaeger asking to meet ten minutes later in the forest to supposedly show us some moves, so he did as asked. Cadet Kirstein attacked Takada, but Takada had noticed a titan heading for our group, more specifically, Cadet Kirstein, so instead of dodging the attack, Takada raced through Kirstein's blade, sacrificing his arm but successfully killing the titan." Yuki took a deep breath at the end, hoping she hadn't left anything out.
Levi considered her report for a few moments before speaking. "So you are telling me that a recruit turned a weapon against the best weapons' maintenance recruit we have at our disposal and severely injured him...for some egotistical purpose?"
"Yes, Captain Levi!"
Levi glared at his desk, swearing, before he stood and began walking purposefully, leaving his office behind and leaving Yuki to catch up. "I want the names of everyone present."
Yuki followed him, retaining a respectful distance. "Cadets Jean Kirstein, Mikasa Ackerman, Eren Jaeger, Sasha Blouse and myself, Cadet Yuki Aachen."
Levi gave the barest nod and strode into the Medical building, seeming to forget that Yuki was still there. Without hesitating, he followed the hallway down and turned into a private room at the end, shutting the door behind himself, but voices could still be heard through the door, and without realizing it, Yuki found herself eavesdropping on the conversation within.
"Hiiro. How are you holding up?" Levi.
"I'm all right. You don't have to do this, you know." That must be the boy from earlier, Yuki reasoned.
"Do what?" Levi asked directly.
"Worry about me. The doctors say that it'll take me a week or two to adjust to the new arm that they're preparing for me, but after that, I'll be fine. As good as new."
"As good as new? You just had your arm chopped off, Hiiro!"
"So? I'm still alive, aren't I? More importantly, those kids are still alive. That's six bodies that you won't have to bury."
Yuki bit her lip, a touch of guilt plaguing her.
"I'd rather bury a foolish cadet than you!"
"Don't say that, Rivalle," the boy - Hiiro - protested.
"But I don't see why you have to be injured for a bunch of recruits who just wanted to boost their own egos!"
Hiiro laughed softly, and Yuki realized with a bit of shock that she'd never seen him actually smile. "You're just grumpy because I won't be able to give you the new model you've been waiting for."
"If you don't hurry up and recover by then, then so help me, I'll have you moved to the kitchen staff," Levi threatened, and a moment of silence permeated the room and into the hallway beyond.
"Anywhere but the front lines, huh?" Hiiro asked, this new quiet different than his normal subdued tone.
"If that's what it takes to keep you breathing, then yes," Levi readily admitted, and for the first time since entering the building, Yuki wondered if she should really be eavesdropping in the first place. That's a captain I'm eavesdropping on! Plus, it's Levi! If I'm caught, I'll be killed!
