Captain Takada was taken away the next day by a Military Police envoy. His wrists were chained together around the saddle of a horse, and he was led away.

A month passed, then two, then three. Because the Scout Regiment was now short an officer, Levi was forced to take over as Captain of Takada's group. Every day, he forced them to train hard, long hours in the forest. But instead of patiently working with them to improve, he grew frustrated quickly and would often lash out in anger. Nobody was very surprised, though. They'd all seen how close he was with their previous Captain, and his behavior was justifiable.

Levi, however, still had no justification for Hiiro's absense.

"How long?" Levi asked Erwin, palms flat on the big oak desk, applying heavy pressure.

"How long what?" Erwin asked wearily, looking up at Levi in exasperation. Levi had been coming to see him once a week, minimum. He knew what this was about.

"You know damn well what! When are they releasing Hiiro?!" Levi snapped, his tiny frame bursting with aggression.

Erwin just sighed. "The situation is out of my hands, Levi. I am no longer in control of what happens to Hiiro Takada. That's all under the MP's control now."

"You got to be shitting me. You know the kind of sick things the MP does. You abandoned one of your own, of our own. What's that thing they used to say? Never leave a man behind? No, deliver him straight to the enemy."

Erwin sighed again. "I understand your position, Levi. He was your friend-"

"Not was, is. And he's more than a friend. He's practically a brother."

"Friend, brother - the end result is the same. If the same thing happened tomorrow, I'd make the same decision. There's more at play here than just your friendship, or your brotherhood, or whatever title you want to slap on it. End story? He's gone. Am I sorry? Sure. Do I regret my actions? No. My job is to protect more people than just the two of you. Now, we've had this conversation a dozen times. It's out of my control. Go back to your quarters and calm down a bit. The MP is restricted from killing him."

Levi gave a final glare towards his commanding officer, turned and slammed the door shut behind him, bringing him face-to-face with Cadet Yuki Aachen.

"Sir!" she squeaked, jumping to attention.
Levi was so frustrated that he brushed right past her, ignoring her small figure and stalking towards his room.

Yuki made the executive decision to break attention and follow after him. "Sir!"

Still, Levi walked away.

"Sir! It's...it's about Captain Takada."

Levi stopped on a dime but didn't turn around. "I'm listening."

Yuki rushed on, aware that she was losing his attention with every second she wasted. "I...I have some contacts inside the inner wall. I think I can arrange for you to go meet Hii- T-Takada, maybe even get him out."

Levi looked over his shoulder. "What contacts?"

"My brother and...my father."

"...who is your father Yuki?"

Two days later, the necessary preparations had been made, and Levi and Yuki were being escorted inside the wall, where they met up with a security detail that carried them into the innermost layer.

Levi's face was set in grim shadow while Yuki vibrated nervously with an innate restless energy.

"I have to talk with my father," she said, keeping her voice low. "Like I said, I can't promise anything, but-"

"Just do your best so we can get Hiiro and bring him home."

Yuki gave a sharp nod and discounted in front of what looked to be a mansion. "Stay here," she said before turning to face the large, stately doors. With a deep breath, she walked up and reached out to pull the door open when it was pushed open from within. She stumbled back a half step and looked up in surprise.

Ayato leaned against the door, arms crossed. "It took a hell of a lot to get you here. Whoever this guy is, he'd better be worth it. And this better not be about some personal motivation."

"What do you mean, personal motivation?"

"I'm not risking everything to bring you here to break your boyfriend out of prison."

A slight blush stained Yuki's cheeks. "It's not like that! He's just a really good officer who was at the wrong place at the wrong time."

Ayato shrugged. "Whatever you say. Dad's waiting." He nodded inside, and Yuki went in.
